Point taken BUT if you thought the details wrong ,why would you have entred them in the first place??
If you read the thread (which was started in 2007 btw!) the OP gave the wrong details to someone else. The 'someone else' would have expected to have been given the correct details so would not have had any thought that they may be wrong when they entered them.

There is an etiquette to forum posting which is that you don't hijack somebody else's thread and you don't resurrect a thread that was concluded months or years ago.

I don't necessarily agree with that in all cases. If a similar issue to the OP is experienced then why not add it to an old thread? It would certainly reduce a lot of duplicate threads and would actually mean certain threads could become a small library of information and experiences on a certain subject.

I had a similar problem when I ran up a significant underpayment to a utility company. In order to avoid having my DD put up by a ridiculous amount, I offered to pay the outstanding amount, online. The person at the end of the phone gave me the wrong sort code, and the payment went astray. My own bank traced it for me and wrote to the recipient (another banking institution in the City) - no reply. I wrote - no reply (there's no phone no. available).

In this case I think it's the utility co's fault, they should write off the amount. They've now changed my direct debit to the ridiculous amount I was trying to avoid.

  • I also disagree with agrinnall, as an experienced forum user, or forum !!!!!! as I call myself, I often get ridiculed for starting a thread on something that's been covered before. Many forum admins urge you to check if your problem has been discussed elsewhere before starting a new thread. Ergo if you want to make a post it's assumed you should do so on the old thread.

Anyway, I'm digressing and am still £700 out of pocket.
