This does make some sense as £16.66 was before VAT.
16.66*1.2=20.00.
If so, the allowance was swallowed in the first 10 days.
Interestingly, 10.829*1.2=13.00 too.
Basecontract and a 'free'
phone? This is self-delusion.
Even if you do need 700 minutes and unlimited texts, the airtime costs no more than £12.
Did I say "free"? No, I didn't. As it happens, I worked in the industry for years so know perfectly well how contracts work, and my contract has NEVER been more than a couple of pounds over.
Your username suits you, now either find something CONSTRUCTIVE to say, or find somewhere else to snark. On the up

I'd be happy to continue this discussion, but it wasn't my intention to drive the thread away from the topic.0 -
Not the same whatsoever, I said I paid no additional fee on top of the contract charges, for the handset. I am more than aware that the cost of the handset is factored into my monthly charge. Sigh.On the up

I am sorry to see you have gone over your monthly data limit... It saddens me to see so many smart phone users being sold inadequate monthly data allowances, in this age of high data use 2GB or even less, it being used to catch consumers out and charge them huge amounts for going over their limit.
Even small amounts of app updates, web searches, Skype, video clips, etc will take you over the limit on many contracts.
Don't forget the upload and download are added to form the monthly allowance.
I am already up to 5GB in a month on my iPhone 5... on the Three "The One Plan" on a 1 month rolling contract0 -
Iphone users have reported phantom data use for a couple of years now. Different explanations.
Just Google iphone users phantom data orange and see.0 -
I agree completely that so many contracts are still woefully under-accomodating for data, but I suspect something additional has to be at play here - to go from the 300mb range to 1500mb seems like a hell of a lot with no behavioural change.
I'm certainly still going to contact them, find out if they can see what's causing the biggest data pulls (they can), and go from there. This must be brought under control. On the up

The OP used just 300Mb in November. The excessive usage was a result of either a fault or incorrect settings, not of an inadequate data allowance.I am already up to 5GB in a month on my iPhone 5... on the Three "The One Plan" on a 1 month rolling contract

Can it be that you use that much because you are on The One plan?

My iPhone 5 runs the battery down at an incredible rate if cellular data is left turned on all the time, there is some "chatter" between the phone and the network which may account for the OP going over their monthly allowance.
Points to check:
Settings, General, About, Diagnostics & Usage: Tick "Don't Send" to avoid the phone updating Apple with your phone use.
Email Apps (such as Gmail) and Skype will talk to the network almost constantly, eating up your data. While it's a pain to do, turning off cellular data will stop that. Turn it back on when you want to check e-mail etc. (cellular data is found under Settings, General, Cellular).
Some other Apps may also use data on a regular basis, again turning off cellular data will stop that.0 -
iPhones are so locked down by Apple that the kind of apps that analyse and control your data are near non existent on iPhone.
There are 2 iPhone apps, Onavo Count and Onavo Extend. Onavo can get around Apple controls by rerouting all mobile data via its own servers. Can't recall all details but Onavo Extend can both analyse and compress some data. I think it's the only way to truly analyse where the data is going, broken down by app.
If you are uneasy about that rerouting, can uninstall again after you discover what's happening. But rerouting only really means that Onavo can get your internet usage info instead of your mobile provider doing so.
From experience, I think iPhones are really weak about controlling mobile data use even if you are connected to your own WiFi.
As suggested above, turn mobile data off when at home.
But Apple make even this hard to do by banning 'widget' apps that would conveniently toggle mobile data on/off from the home screen. No prob on Android though.0
