RSA Echoice have cancelled my policy!
Comments
-
Yes I use the car for work but it is always returned to his garage at his address (he lives round the corner) He bought the car from new in Nov 2000 and has no other cars. Yes I obtained my license Feb 2008 and was insured on the car shortly after. I drive mostly during the daytime.
RSA Echoice were informed of all the above factors when the policy was taken out.
Driving the car to work in the daytime would normally make you the main user.
Have you declared to RSA that you're the main user0 -
No because I am not? Despite me using it for work purposes my Grandfather uses it the most he's the main driver.0
-
How many days a week do you use it for work?0
-
If you're using it for work eg 10 hours a day you would normally be the main user, how is your grandfather using it more than you?0
-
It does look like fronting. Proving otherwise will be difficult if you use the car for work every day.
He will now have to declare having a policy cancelled. Which is likely to affect his premiums and choice of insurer. If he fails to declare this he may have more policies cancelled or worse.
How is he the main user if you have the car all day?Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
I use it three times a week for 4 hour shifts. Walk everywhere else maybe use it once a fortnight for other purposes i.e recreational. He is main user.0
-
.....Can anyone help? I am of course going to complain about this.....
It does seem the alleged fronting is the reason for the cancellation. The non receipt of the form they sent out wouldn't stand up as a reason for cancelling.
The policyholder needs to now make the complaint over the cancellation and the rejection of the claim.
He should follow the complaints procedure set out in the policy and escalate if he is unhappy with the reply.
This all takes time (months rather than weeks) so he needs to be either sorning the car or seeing if he can get insurance elsewhere - though having the policy cancelled will have to be disclosed to new insurers so this is going to be difficult/expensive!0 -
You need to produce mileage & time estimates/records that, hopefully, will show that your granddad does more miles and has control/use of the car for more of the week. Then you can argue the fronting point.
When they inspected it did it look like a "teenager car" or a "granddad car"?
Whose fault was the accident?0 -

Looks to be non fault as other driver pulled out from a junction in front of OP.
I would guess the accident was on his way to work0 -
I wonder if the OP's description of the accident included the words "was on my way to work" or simular. The form they then sent (or forgot to send) may have been questions about the work and how often OP has the car. The insurance company may well assume the work is full time and like the other poster think the OP is the main driver.
I think I would put a complaint in writing about the cancellation, from the policyholder listing the hours/days the OP would use the car and restating the fact that the policyholder is the main driver. I would also mention the fact you were told a form had been sent-but you never received it, but are both happy to answer any further questions they have.
