Skip Company Will Not Remove Skip From Our Drive

OP, put a bl**dy great sign on it saying don't use xxx skip company as they don't pick up their skips, phone the local paper and wait.
It will be gone in a day.
yes, do this.. it will work. get yourself in the local rag with a photo.. and hey presto!! skip will go. within 24 hours0 -
The skip is still here despite 2 further phone calls and broken promises (from the owner). Tomorrow is the last chance before it gets taken further - in writing, to the local press and to the local Councillors. Would trading standards be interested?
The most annoying thing is there seems to be a loophole if it's on your drive. I think their waste licence should include some kind of obligation to remove skips within X number of days of being requested, whether on a road or on a private drive way. That way, this could all be avoided.Trying to think of a clever witticism, but cant, so... *insert clever witticism here*0 -
You could've made it a condition of your contract.I think their waste licence should include some kind of obligation to remove skips within X number of days of being requested, whether on a road or on a private drive way. That way, this could all be avoided.
I know you didn't anticipate this problem, but I am not sure you can blame a third party, the council... simply because it isn't in their 'waste licence'.0 -

I'm not blaming the council as such, but even if I had made it a condition of my own individual contract, I would still have to enforce it. The fact is, the council has the power over these people, as without a licence to operate, they have no business. All it would take is some kind of additional condition of operation (that most skip companies would comply with anyway) to remove skips from property within X days of being requested.
It is a suggestion rather than a criticism, to close a loophole and save anyone else going through the same nightmare in the future.Trying to think of a clever witticism, but cant, so... *insert clever witticism here*0 -

No, I'm afraid they wouldn't be as Trading Standards only deal with criminal issues now and this is a civil issue. If you call they will direct you to the Consumer Advice Service - 08454 04 05 06 or http://www.adviceguide.org.uk/england/consumer_e.htm
ETA - also, just to clarify, it isn't the local council that issues waste carrier permits. That is the responsibility of the environment agency.Common sense?...There's nothing common about sense!0 -

So basically there is no way to enforce anything and nobody cares. How can this happen? I've paid for a service which includes the delivery and collection of a skip. They have reneged on the contract by not collecting.
If I pay for another firm to move the skip, if I'm lucky enough to find one that will, I'll have to foot the bill, and if the skip goes AWOL, no doubt I could be pursued for the cost of a replacement skip. If I try to pursue them for removal costs, I have no leg to stand on. The council don't care because it's on a drive. Trading standards don't care because it's "a civil matter". They are basically untouchable.Trying to think of a clever witticism, but cant, so... *insert clever witticism here*0 -

Did you not see the phone number of CAB?
Did you not see the link to their website?
Anyway, yes this is a contract issue.
Go to the small claims court... they also care.
Enforce your rights.... or do you want someone else to do it for you?0 -
Talk to the consumer advice service - they are the group set up to provide advice about this sort of civil issue. I expect they'll tell you to send a recorded delivery letter to the skip company giving them 14 days to remove the skip and saying that if they fail to do so you will have it removed and recover the expenses from them (through the small claims court if necessary).
And it isn't that no one cares, it's that Trading Standards have been massively cut back over recent years and they now focus on criminal matters that they have a legal duty to attend to and which often affect vulnerable people. They do what they can within very limited resources. The consumer advice service was set up to provide advice on civil issues because it's much cheaper than trading standards doing the job.Common sense?...There's nothing common about sense!0 -
I've known some skips to stay on the road for several months, and that's bad enough, but on our own drive way and with a baby seat for the car we cannot just go on like this until someone else orders the same size skip. Please help!
Please tell me the relevance of the baby seat or I shall wonder about it all night. This is an open forum, anyone can post and I just did !0 -

Drives are for parking cars on. Baby seats go in cars. Huge skips dumped on drive ways prevent car doors opening.
It's a bit like someone with a lorry parking next to you in the parent/child place at the supermarket. Only, it's your own drive, outside your own front door.Trying to think of a clever witticism, but cant, so... *insert clever witticism here*0
