I am simply comparing the cost of getting to France in this instance though.

Only difference in the routes after that are driving from Calais or Zeebruge to Frejus, which from initial look doesn't cost too much different.

Edit - using Via Michelin, it estimates additional £20 each way if do Zeebrugge rather than Calais as starting point.
I don't understand why with the cost of the ferry and the driving down to SoF you want to take this option.

To save time, money and stress why not fly down and hire a car when there.
It's your money. Except if it's the governments.

I take it you're not a fan of a 'road trip'?

I love road trips, the longer, the better

For many people, e.g. those with small children, it is much more convenient to drive the whole way.

Easyjet flights from Ncl - Nice are £649. The car hire is insignificant when the flights already wipe out the ferry/driving option.

Yep this is part of the fun. Want to do the drive, but also concious that 1,102 miles each way is a lot of driving to do.

Cleared for the holidays I need from work now so can decide which route to take, but adding in an overnight boat trip at the start will be an added adventure for the little un (3 yo), as well as taking a little bit of strain off the driving, so would be ready and refreshed for the trek from Zeebrugge which I think we will stretch with a couple of stops en route cost depending.

I am simply trying to be helpful, based on 20 years experience of driving in France, Germany, Switzerland and Italy.
You have probably tried using this link, which gives the approximate cost for the journey, including motorway tolls, which come to nearly 100 Euros EACH WAY.

I have done Calais to the South of France in one hit a couple of times, but prefer to do a stop roughly half way - Beaune is a good place to break the journey.

Return flights Bristol - Toulouse were £100 pp at the beginning of June.
If you like driving that much then you might try the Toulouse - Nice trip.;)

Sounds like a great idea if only he lived in Bristol and was driving a DeLorean

Thanks for that - I have used viamichelin site to get a feel for the toll road costs.

Will have a look into Beaune for sure.

In all likelihood we'll stop two nights en route down to make it part of the holiday, will then be a case of deciding whether to make it two stops in different places (most likely) or two nights in one place.

Not a great deal of Holiday Inn's on the route, but I have a fair few Reward Points that I can use to lessen the cost.

Have made the journey to the south of France (Calais to the Camargue ), using the motorways in about 8 hrs, but that is not possible in the high season i.e August, where everyone is on the road, especially weekends.
