Two people can't have the same email, right?

  • My gmail address (not a firstname.lastname format) contains a dot. I've set a filter for anything without the dot to go straight to spam. And without exception, it is all spam and nothing I've ever signed up for. My conclusion is that it's purely speculative; that the address is simply made-up. Why not do the same? You can still check your spam folder if you're curious, but it won't fill up your inbox with spurious nonsense.

    HTH. :)

I've had this problem for the last 5 years. we both have the same initial and surname as part of our email addresses, but his has the number 7 as the last character (i.surname7@) and he continually omits the 7 when entering his email address. In the early days I contacted him several times, both by phone and email to point out his error, but he was adamant he was entering it correctly.

In the last few months I've had emails confirming orders placed/despatched, share dividend notifications, follow ups to holiday and cruise enquiries, car and home insurance quotes and countless mailing lists he's subscribed to (all of which I immediately un-subscribe from!)
How do I add a signature?

I too have had this problem for years.

The lastest was because some plonka missed some digits off his email address so I got his emails from his purchase of a cooker.

I had to get the pw reminder, log in and change it then find his number, so called him and told him.

    Silly mistake, happens too often.

Another is because I have a rude gmail account people use as a throwaway address when joining sex sites etc.
    I end up unsubscribing them.

Someone in Australia must have a similar email to me as I keep getting added to email groups on needlework and choirs and things out there, genuine type emails, not spam. I even got a real gossipy family news type email, quite interesting read lol - I do email back to say they've got the wrong email.

I've worked out why I keep getting Irish Gingernutty's emails - the dozy bat keeps forgetting the 1.

She's a high falutin' business woman - I've had financial reports, map references for land, order confirmations, paypal notifications.

The three American Gingernuttys and the New Zealand one? No idea.
 Don't know what I'm doing, but doing it anyway...

    Google are bad for this.

I have the email address reggie.rebel@gmail.com and often get emails for reggierebel@googlemail.com.

Google are aware of it but can't/won't do anything about it

This is the same address that is why!!

Gmail does not recognise any dot before the @ sign (but you can put it in if you want)

gmail.com and googlemail.com ARE the same

I know, unfortunately google don't, or won't. So I get emails for a bloke with the same name as me, but not me. I know his ebay user name and that he has a loan with Capital One.
It's taken me years of experience to get this cynical
