My Tv Can't Be Fixed Under Warranty I'm Not Happy With Replacement Offered

If I could get one of those mentioned I'd be happy but it was if you pay this on top etc !!. I've paid my 10.99 for 6 years in good faith that it would be replaced like for like so to go from a sleek 42 with fantastic sound to an LG with awful sound rating and poor picture (as per which online review) wasn't pleasing. I'm just on my way to Currys having spoken to knowhow to speak to duty manager. Ps it is a 1024p. If they said well we can't offer you the 2 side speakers or motorised base but in return you can upgrade to 50 and have smart tv I'd be happy. But as I say it became an excercise to extract money from me. I'll post later0

The terms I signed up for 7 years ago have changed dramatically but it sais if they can't fix they will replace. If you look at my 9.57 post above I only want what i paid for. I'd have been quite happy to have had it fixed. it was Hd 1020p0

If you gave the model number of the old TV it would be much more helpful to the people who are trying to help.
At the end of the day though, the store can override the price of the voucher amount if the specs don't match.
It's either going to be a 42PD7200 or a 42PD97000 -
OP, all you can do is get Currys to show you an equivalent product that can be purchased for the amount you've been credited.0

Bear in mind that reviews for picture in particular are framed around today's expectations.
Upscaling of standard definition has come a long, long way since you got your TV and even an acceptable SD pic 6 years ago is considered bad now. Have you been to look at the LG? It may be that that particular model is poor. Have a look in the branch and see what you can get in that price range that isn't pants.
It might be that you prefer the picture style of plasma over LED, but also remember that plasma TVs will look poorer in the shop due to the brightness of the showroom.
I suspect Currys' argument about external speakers of a motorised separate stand (can you not use the stand you have?) would be that you bought a TV, not separates before, so they are replacing the TV. And it is an exercise in making money, you're right, they're a business. Businesses don't do ANYTHING to be nice. They do it to create revenue. Currys are just more overt about it than somebody like, say, john lewis.0 -
Virtually all modern TVs have poor sound quality, it's due to high thin the TVs are which makes it almost impossible to get decent sound quality without separate speakers.
Although I'm happy enough with the sound quality of my LG LED without external speakers0 -
If they genuinely cannot find a replacement product because your old one did X, Y & Z and no new product they sell does X, Y & Z, then talk to the store - they can escalate the issue on your behalf and may instead be able to offer a cash settlement. HOWEVER, I think you'll be significantly better off upgrading to a much better quality, 7 years younger, TV.
If they DO sell a TV that does X, Y & Z - you have every right to ask for it. But it'll have to be a feature (like "in-built DVD player") rather than something vague ("good sound").
The "recommended replacement" on the voucher is just that - a suggestion - you can go for a different product if you want (and not even necessarily a TV if you want), or can go for a different value product and pay the difference (or keep the extra if it's cheaper).Nothing I say represents any past, present or future employer.0 -
Yes Jakg, however Sounds Good could relate to the wattage of the old system, which is a tangible and measurable asset, I BELIEVE the Op's old TV is one of the systems I mentioned and they have 2 x 15W speakers. The suggested replacement only has 2 x 10W speakers, which IMO is more than enough to ask for one that matches spec for spec, in which case you can reasonably ask to match spec for spec (unlikely as most TV's go to 20 max) or ask for the voucher to be amended to include a additional soundbar, as the reason you brought the TV was the superior sound to the other models though the placement and power. That would be enough of a reason for me to change the voucher amount.0
