My mum is full of 'stories of pregnancy from ye olde days'

Apparently there were no HPT's when my brother was born (1964), so you basically missed a couple of periods, went to the Dr, did a wee which they sent off somewhere mysterious..then waited for about 2 more weeks before phoning the Dr again and being told 'congratulations...'!

Also she said after giving birth, you spent about 2 weeks in a maternity home where midwives would basically look after your newborn for you, only bringing them to you when they needed feeding! (actually that bit sounds quite nice..you got a lot of rest apparently).

Also men didn't really come near the delivery room. My dad was at work when all 3 of us were born, and it was a case of a phone call..'Hello Mr
, congratulations, you are a father'. Then normally (after a quick 'celebratory drink at the local) the father would head to the hospital to meet his new offspring!

All very different to today! My dad visibly flinches when the idea of a father being at the birth is mentioned.

He never changed a nappy either :rotfl:

My mum said the only way to find out if she was pregnant was to go to the dr, no tests to buy in boots then, although I can't remember if she said that was still the case when my sister was born in 86.

She said she had to wait for the dr to call her back as well. Us lot on here find it bad enough waiting the 2ww & a few minutes lol!

My Dad was at both births. He even delivered my sister as the ambulance couldn't find the house & I think it must have been a very short labour!

Heylo ladies, hope we're all as well as can be expected in crazy-symptom-spotting-TTC land  Just a quick question for those on the CB trial... has anyone received their monitor yet? Judging by my temps I can expect CD1 relatively sharpish, so it would be nice to have it here for the new cycle, IYSWIM.

Nope I got an email after the consent form saying thanks, and they would be calling again this week to get some 'demographic' info & they are ready to send out the study packs, they just have to call first. No one has called me yet.

My mum told me that the only way you found out you were pregnant was to miss a couple of periods and see the doctor. All but me were born at home with only gas and air, including my 11lb brother and as far as my mum is concerned, home births are the only way and hospital births are traumatic (me - I got stuck and nearly died). She watches OBEM and gets annoyed. She wants to know why they're screaming because "It's not that bad". My mum is tough.

My mum had an epidural with me, but obviously with my sister coming in a rush at home, had nothing & she always says yes it is bad. Then my friend who normally exaggerates and I expected would say it was horrendous, said it wasn't that bad & shed do it again if someone gave her 100quid! Someone else I know who was selected for the army said she felt like she was being cut in two! So who knows who to believe lol!

I was mum's third and dad last mother's day said 'it was like shelling peas' :rotfl:
Mine was the only birth he saw, eldest was six weeks early so emergency situation and middle was forceps and they don't (or didn't) let dad's stay for that as it's distressing

My dad himself was born at home and he was the last birth the midwife did before she was committed so make of that what you will lol

Ate sooo much today as I've decided today will be my last day off the diet.

Will be doing calorie restriction to 1500 with weightlifting and c25k three times a week, found myself making too many excuses on low gi so calorie restriction will force me to write everything down. Weigh in day, and therefore cheat day, will be moved to Friday, clever of me I think

Back to work tomorrow after a four day weekend, what makes it worse is I was meant to have tomorrow off as well but have a day of appeals to clerk instead. Must either stop volunteering myself or at least put in the diary when I have! Lol x

Even contemplating starting going to the indoor boot camp on a Saturday morning, must be mad!
