    Just received post informing :

'American Express has decided to discontinue the Travellers Cheque Card as from 31 October 2007.After this date your Card will be automatically cancelled and any remaining balance will be refunded to you via cheque.'

My parents have just got the same letter.

Problem they have is that they loaded it up with dollars earlier this year when they went on a cruise. They came back with just over $4K (dollars) balance and they were going to leave it on until we went away to Florida next July.

So appart from having the balance paid back as a cheque - I'm assuming they'll get the $4K balance paid back as a sterling chque at the current exchange rate  .

    What else can they do?

I rang them up and asked them to credit my current account with the balance and there was no problem. Should be in there in 3 weeks time.

You can't blame AMEX, they were making a huge loss on these cards as banks are now making their own 'travel' cards and not promoting AMEX.

    Shame. Great card.
