Does loyalty actually exist anymore?

Apart from the few amazing deals we see on the retention threads obviously.

I ask as the more I read the more it seems major networks aren't offering any deals to most customers other than what is advertised. Obviously this is all about profit, but is anyone else of the belief loyalty is now dying out?

Personally I don't believe it's a right for people to expect discounts for staying with a network, as if there is a better deal out there then you can always leave!

I think that loyalty discounts do still exist, but in the main they are reserved for the few people that actually make the network some money. Given that most of us very rarely go outside of our allowances...that 'money making' pool is getting smaller and smaller.
As has already been stated though...there's usually a just as good or better deal just around the corner anyway.

It is a two way street - loyalty is no longer rewarded, but as the rate tarts know, the aim is to get the best deal possible, and this means pro-actively pursuing it yourself. If you do nothing, you are unlikely to benefit in any way.

Never received a loyalty discount (and I've done the trick of phoning to let them know I'll be cancelling to get a better deal elsewhere)

I tend to find better deals elsewhere anyway, just moved to TalkTalk for Phone/Broadband and TV and I'm saving 20% on what I was paying to BT.

Other people know different, but I don't believe too many big companies are that bothered about losing customers, especially if keeping them means getting less out of them. Strangely.

    Dealt with BT and Vodafone.

Disagree completely. Always call up at the end of my contract to see what they are going to offer me. Not a good offer I would walk. Never had to walk yet. They always come up with something I can't get elsewhere. And why shouldn't I walk. If another company can offer me a better dear, I'm going to go where I can save money. My loyalty to them means they've had my custom for the last (when did virgin mobile start?) however amount of years. I do hope they continue with their super offers though :)

All the networks have 'loyalty' or 'retention' departments ... you need to ask for your PAC before you can talk to them.
  • Loyalty discounts are indeed about your worth to the company.

A lot of the time people are given their PACs because it costs more for the network to keep you on the deal you might want. Always say, it's best to go with the best value for you!

The ideal customer to a phone company is either someone on a £30/£35 month deal whom hardly ever uses it or a customer on a cheap-deal whom goes over allowances every other month.

Loyalty goes both ways, a "loyal" customer does not open with "I have been looking around" Do you say to your wife, "I have seen a better deal on a younger model in town"

But again, if you are paying £10 a month and have done so for 20 years, and expect to get a top of the line phone for this, just think, £2400 is nothing to a company that generates billions.

Also with the competition on the market with 3rd party providers, chances are you will end up with the same provider, excdept they won't have to cut their margins to retain you.
