Well, bought Elefun in the 70% off sale and picked it up Saturday, as usual box is squashed due I thought to inadequate packaging for courier, however I also noticed double sellotape on top, opened it to check contents and what do I find - a returns note stating item is faulty!! So how many other bargain sale items are actually returns? Anyone else received similar?

Does it work? Perhaps the original buyer was a bit of an idiot and didn't know how to work it (seen it done). Or they used the "it doesn't work" line as an excuse to try and return it."Beautiful young people are accidents of nature, But beautiful old people are works of art."

It's common practice. If they're discounted and work I don't see the problem. What do you expect retailers to do with stock people have returned under DSR, open return policies, or through lies and stupidity?0

zara are selling worn clothing as sale.
River island are selling ripped clothing as sale.

Of course it matters. If I purchase something advertised as new I expect it to be new and unused, not a damaged and faulty return. Have just received an email from Head Office and have been told it is Debenhams policy to resell returned goods 'as new' as long as they are not faulty! How can this be legal? They are advertising the goods as 'new' but they are not, they have been sold, possibly used, returned, then sold again. I have bought several items from Debenhams in the sale and most arrived with the boxes very badly damaged due to being posted in mailing bags and not boxes, now I receive what is basically a 'second hand' item. Am certainly not impressed with Debenhams.0

This has put me off ordering off Debenhams, I understand it's discounted but that's not the point. Surely saying it is new when it isn't is false advertising??No you're not a vegetarian if you eat any animal or fish, so do not insult genuine veggies by calling yourself one!
Thanks to everyone who posts competitions. You are the stars of the board :T:j:T0 -

Was the item a current line? Was there anything on the price ticket explaining why it was reduced? You bought it knowing it was reduced, didn't you wonder why?
IF there is something on the price ticket, then they're not advertising it "as new" but advertising a reduced item.
If they're grouping it with new items without anything on it, that's a bit bad, but do a double-check because I've had no end of customers assuming something is a new item when it's got a sticker on it that says "used" and they can't get their head around me explaining they are buying that very one, reduced because it is used.0 -
It was ordered online advertised in the Blue Cross toy sale.0

So you bought it as new in the sale.
Just because someone returned it doesnt mean that it is not new. Indeed how long do things sit on shelves in a warehouse or store for anyway beforee they are bought and does that still make them new.
It was on sale. You got a bargain."If you no longer go for a gap, you are no longer a racing driver" - Ayrton Senna0 -
Thanks JBH, it's always good when someone chips in with a reasonable perspective. Yes it's good to vent, but it's also good to have a bit of balance.
When I worked at Littlewoods, returned items would be put back on sale, unless damaged. If they were "worn" enough for a reasonable person to count it as an issue, the return would not be allowed.
What are they supposed to do with all the stuff people take back because it was the wrong size etc, write it off?0 -
