Hello Js477. My sister did phone and ask but they said they could not discuss it over the phone but it would all have been explained in the letter. The letter just said he did not meet the department of transports guidelines but gave us no indication of what the guidelines were.
We think he was given it origjinally about 6 years ago when he had a knee replacement but we are not sure. My sister who knows a bit more about these things has just drafted a letter. The lady he saw knew nothing of his illness even when he told her it's name , we think the last time he had a gp letter but she had no record of it, he is also so much worse now than before we don't understand it. We are worried that he will refuse to go out at all now as he will be so worried about not being able to park (totally OTT I know but he is old) He already has home delivery shopping because he cannot cope with walking around and carrying things but at the moment he will allow us to take him out to buy small bits and pieces.

Take a look at Page 15 onwards from the guidance. Here

Ask your council if they have an appeals process. If not and you think afer reading the guidance above that your father is eligible then reapply.

    HiYa schrodie & HB58,

    Here 1.4

Therefore, having carefully considered the responses to the consultation, Ministers have decided that, when DLA is replaced by PIP, there should still be a legislative link that means those people who score 8 points or more in the ‘Moving Around’ activity of PIP will be automatically eligible for a Blue Badge. This activity assesses a persons physical ability to get around and a score of 8 points or more will be awarded to people who are either unable to walk or who cannot walk further than approximately 50 metres. This means that eligibility for a Blue Badge will continue to be asimilar to the current eligibility criteria for the scheme as possible.

It's a pity this appears not to have changed then. As presently there are far too many perfectly able bodied people who have the badge with no physical impairment. I don't intend to start a slanging match with those who have a vested interest, but if you cannot walk more than 50 metres, that is due to some type of physical disablement.

Far too many times you see people who have a blue badge park and virtually trot to the shops, or you see them a good half mile away from the parking spaces still shopping at some point later on.

The blue badge scheme has been abused by too many people for too long.

But correct me if I am wrong. You can currently get HRM and still walk more than 50 metres without pain? That covers a whole swathe of claimants at the moment.

PIP would exclude them. Hopefully, the ATOS assessments for PIP is as vigorous as ESA so only the genuinely needy get the correct level of support. I expect many who answer question 2 (a) and (b) will be less than truthful in their answer to qualify for (c).

I'm amazed how the prople with BBs kick off if anyone challenges anybody parking in a disabled bay who doesn't overtly look disabled, and are also the first to kick off if someone without a BB is parked there!

My GM has a BB and at a city car park the parking is free for BB holders. (even if not in a disabled bay).

Normally when I take Gran out I need to park in the bays as need the door space to get her out and her wheelchair, but as I had someone with me at the weekend I could pull up outside the door, my passenger stayed with Gran and I moved the car to another space as disabled bays are very limited and I could use the loading bay to "off load Gran".

Upon return I went to the "office" with Gran's badge to be expempt from paying parking and got a right mouthful, I mean really foul language from some man.

People like me are scurge of society, out for a freeload, his wife waited ages to get a badge because they give them to the likes of me and he had seen my run up the stairs to my car. How can I run etc.

Honestly the venom and tirade that came from his mouth was unbelievable. I was a bit shaken and felt rather queezy as he was spittling all over me in his rage.

Once I had my ticket I then got my car and went back to the loading bay (next to the disabled bays) to pick up Gran and he was there. He looked at my GM and I felt sure I'd get an apology, given I had left the bays free for those that needed it.

No I got a V sign from his wife and a whole load of expletives from him.

What an ignorant bar-steward! Have you noticed that the more ignorant the accuser is, the less likely you are to get an apology? Even though he could see your GM's evident disability.!

Would someone from the forum team like to explain why my posts have been removed from this thread?

Not just yours. It seems a certain person's posts about their BB misuse have been deleted and the responses to it.

But one of the posts was the response to zoominatorones post about BB holders being outraged.

There seems to be a lot of posts being deleted recently without justification or explanation

Since the website and forum was sold it seems some of the forum team have decided they have the right to censor certain views.

  • I'm all for change but I think this is a tad unfair. I only use my bb either when I'm in full flare (in which cases I usually can't even drive) or if I have no option than to park miles away from somewhere. I also give up disabled spaces if someone else needs it. I think they should be given for any dla,pip award. My baby has epilepsy and the wind etc blasting in her face triggers seizures. If I didn't have my own bb she wouldn't be entitled to one as she gets the care bit not mobility. Disabled people are being victimized for something they have no control over. Like I said I'm all for change but as the saying goes "if it ain't broke, don't fix it!". Rant over lol x
The feeling i got when i confirmed my place studying criminology at Exeter Uni was brilliant!!!!!

The pride my children told me they had in me was even better!!!!! # setting positive example to children is OUTSTANDING!!!! !:grouphug::grouphug::smileyhea:smileyhea:smileyhea:smileyhea:smileyhea:smileyhea:smileyhea

Is the wind or its circulation properties different in Blue badge designated spaces ? maybe the temperature differences from unequal heating of Earth's surface are markedly different in standard bays sized at 4.8 metres by 2.4 metres and BB bays with a surface area of 5.5m long by 2.9m :D

Lol, I mean if it's mega windy,I live on exmoor so it can be bad (occasionally). I was using it as an example of why some with disabilities require the badge even when not in receipt of dla mobility part. Parking closer to an entrance on a windy day is what I was getting at. Maybe irrelevant as such but highlights issues with bb. Sorry if my post offended, I didn't mean it to.
