I am amazed that in a time when companies are fighting over "app" space on your mobile, PC, tablet, laptop and netbook that there is/are no custom !!!!!! free browsers available off-the-shelf
staggered in fact
OP you need to start by creating administration login for your eyes only (which you did mention) but you also need to create a seperate login for your boy and set that to "user" only
that way he can't download crap onto your computer and/or run any viruses accidentally - the computer will simply refuse him permission
if he wants anything installing he'll have to ask you to do it
if you are using internet explorer it uses a filter file where you can add restricted sites - there are obviously 1000,s !!!!!! sites so the easy answer is to Google for a file that's already built and put that on the computer
at 13 he's still a baby and shouldn't be expected to rationalize like an adult
get rid of the !!!!!! and let him enjoy his childhood - its not very longWhen will the "Edit" and "Quote" button get fixed on the mobile web interface?0 -
Microsoft's family safety does the job for me.
It is not always about what is deliberately being looked at. I am fully aware that my son will find a way to look at stuf his mother would rather he didn't. it does help prevent some pop ups that may be undesirable.Never put off till tomorrow what you can do today!
Cos if you do it today and like it...You can do it again tomorrow..

E.G if i set up a blocked keyword on the virgin superhub lets say XXX,
it will restrict access to sites containing that word
This approach never works. Blocking XXX will likely block an email from his girlfriend at some point in the future. And should he choose to study Latin in school, one of the common words to block also blocks the Latin word for "with". (Use google translate as said word is blocked here too)
For further reasons why this sort of filtering doesn't work, have a read about the Sćunthorpe Problem.
Edit: Had to use an accented letter C, since the filters on this very forum suffer from that problem!0 -
My friend has a 14 yr old and her solution in addition to setting her son as a user only with inappropriate content and downloads blocked was to put the computer in the family room so that whateveris viewed can easily be physically supervised.
Seems to work.0 -
In my day you had to sit for ages watching the pictures download a row of pixels at a time. We had no such thing as streaming videos. Kids today don't know how lucky they are!0

K9 is pretty effective until they learn enough to circumvent it. After that I went with a busines grade router with built-in filtering.0
