BT ignoring no marketing request and providing questionable info

Since BT Infinity has been available in my street, I have received numerous phone calls and letters from BT. Surprisingly, my ADSL broadband speed (not provided by BT) in my local exchange dropped significantly at around the same time...
When they disconnected my telephone line for a few days a few months ago ("someone had stolen a cable on the street at 10am on a Monday morning" was the official answer), I told the person on the phone that I didn't want to receive any marketing any more from BT.
Of course, they ignored that request. I still get letters and calls from sales people, who tends to forget a few details like the data limit on the cheapest Infinity deal etc.
Can I go to Ofcom and get compensation from that trouble.
I can't stand BT. They wouldn't exist as a company anymore if it was not for their monopoly on telephone lines and fiber...
A few years ago, when I moved from ADSL to ADSL 2 and LLU (different provider), they disconnected both my telephone line and internet for a week, after unplugging everything at the exchange and then denying that they had done anything wrong.
