PCN issued by police - should I appeal?

I parked outside a church this morning to attend an event. I looked around but didn't see any parking restriction signs. I came back 2hrs later to a PCN issued by the local police. They wrote on the front top "45 minute parking restriction" - so I assume they are used to people not knowing what they're being ticketed for! I then looked all around thoroughly and couldn't see a sign. I eventually spotted one further down the street but from where my car was it was side on and you couldn't see what it was at all. I had to walk several car lengths down for it to be visible.

If it matters, I was parked in the last space of the long bay.

You should scan or photograph the ticket both sides and head over to https://www.pepipoo.com
I have yet to see a police PCN that has been valid.
doe xactly as they say in the order they say.
You will also need photographs of this parking space, the road and sign all nice and wide.
    Be happy...;)

Sorry but if you park in a bay it is your responsibility to find out the length of parking permitted in that bay. You can't expect there to be a sign above every space. Walking the length of a couple of cars is really not that far.

The Lord moves in mysterious ways.
  • If it was issued by the police, it will be a Fixed Penalty Notice (FPN), not Penalty Charge Notice (PCN).
If you want to contest a FPN you have to reject it and have the matter dealt with at Magistrates Court.

A block further down the street there is no parking restriction, and I looked all around for a sign. Not sure what else I should have done? Should I always walk the full length of a street just in case there are signs I've missed? The sign is at least 100ft from where I was parked, according to Google Maps.

Sorry, you're right, it's a FPN. Well if it means going to court I will just pay it. Not worth putting myself through the worry and stress. Very annoying though!

There is no correct/not incorrect - it's a FPN not a PCN. The procedure is completely different.
