DSL Connectivity

Please forgive me being brief, Im on my phone because of this problem.
What, or how, is DSL connectivity determined via a router. For the past week we have meant to have had telephone and internet, via Primus i am afraid, my mistake.
For the week the telephone line has just crackled and as of Thursday the internet dropped, DSL line just flickering. Today I swapped routers and got a full DSL light. Unfortunately we had a mini power slump and it was lost again.
So, why can it not connect. Is there a fault ?. Or are there a limited number of lines?
Thank you for any responses and help.

Could be a fault on the line, or a network outage, you'll need to get on to your ISP.That gum you like is coming back in style.0

Define "mini power slump"
If you mean a very brief power outage or voltage drop then it is most likely the router has crashed.
Switch it off for a minute or so and then power back and see what happens.
If you have crackling on the line, remove the router plug, and if you have the BT faceplate that has the horizontal split remove that and plug your phone in to the socket that is revealed. Dial a single number to remove the dialtone and if you still hear crackling then it is a voice line fault.
If the line is quiet then it may be a bad filter (you are using a filter I hope !!), try a new one.0 -

I concur, you could dial 17070, which includes the quiet line test. That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -

Thank you.
I am using a filter and have tried 3 different filters to check if they are the problem.
Plugging the telephone line straight into the BT socket does not eliminate the crackling sound. There is no dialing tone, Primus have on Thursday said there is a fault at the exchange but no date of repair. The phone will ring in but a crackling sound greets an answered phone.
All power was lost in the house for about 20 seconds, happens often and for example I had to wait for Sky to reload.
Over the course of today I have tried powering down , and unplugging for five minutes, the router (s) , and have swapped between both which have worked this week.
I will try calling a number as suggested. Thank you and to others for helping
It is appreciated.0 -
Sorry, not sure how to properly edit using the phone but Primus said on Thursday there was a fault at the exchange but Ive had internet since, eg today.0

A power cut does not affect your connectivity after the event. Once powered up again the router will resynch.
Your issue is either a line or exchange fault. A noisy line will either cause the router to synch at a very low speed, or not at all.No free lunch, and no free laptop

Just had a knock from a BT engineer stating my line should be fine now and it is.
I have full internet connectivity, DSL light on constant, and I can use the phone.
Thank you to all who have assisted with this, it is appreciated. Furthermore my question was answered about how the DSL light becomes constant. At one stage I was wondering if there were a set number of connections through an ISP and it was on a first come basis.
Thank you.0
