Eureka!

Original thought!

We should all be ashamed that we had never thought of that possibility;)

Just looks like another source blaming the "greedy, greedy" utility companies to me.
If you think differently, "clap clap".

Well, it seems strange, that a site who is supposedly "pro-consumer" expert, echos the press blaming all the 'greedy' Utility Companies, yeah?
No, doubt there are plenty of posts on this very forum on that very subject.
But, when i point out, that it might not be the utility companies....
ROFL!!!!!!!!!

When you point out in a seemingly innumerate fashion, without providing any figures as to what you are meaning, a misleading topic 'Hikes' - without any reference to specific tax rises.

Tax is not the cause of 'hikes' - if it's been largely constant.
May it have an effect on the overall price - certainly - but not rises.

.
The fact is, that whatever happens with costs that are outwith the contol of the utility company the government will always take it's pound of flesh.
Even ignoring my calculations, the government takes TWICE as much as the company makes. To me, that is vile and disgusting.
Do you think that's okay? That there is virtually nothing left for competition etc. That old folk freeze 'coz Cameron wants a huge chunk off their bills?
I mean nominally, you're the "Fantastically Fervent MoneySaving Super Fan"????

I trust large companies earnings figures about as much as I can throw their headquarters.

Without a team of forensic accountants, with full access to the books, you basically can't tell.
Also, you can't make both points.
It's either 'old folk freezing is good' or 'high taxes are bad'.

The levies directly on the electricity companies pay for the warm home discount, and winter fuel payments.

You've made a huge sweeping statement based on your own prejudice. While, you seem happy to defend the government and their gang green and perpetuating the myth of the "greedy greedy" utility companies.

I do not agree with the current governments energy policy, and feel they've dramatically mishandled many aspects of general policy.
My general feeling towards most of them is that I wouldn't urinate on them if they were on fire.

Is it truly your position that companies never choose to manipulate their results in such a way to minise their taxable profits?
You are confusing the issues around a large company with oil extraction activities too.
The taxes on those activities are counted in the above report - centrica is not a solely domestic energy supply company.

Current (last year or two) energy rises are not due to rises in taxation on the companies.

British Gas parent company does pay taxes, it is there in black in white.
These taxes and green charges are twice what the company makes.
This does not include hidden taxes. In the accounts, this business is separated off. When accounts are completed in-house an independent accountancy firm must sign them off.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not defending the utility companies. To me clearly they are all in it together and keep stoom about the situation.
Ask yourself, why is there never an inquiry by ofgen into price rigging -- ---When the wholesale price drops, our bills don't. More money for the chancellor. All we ever got from Cameron was some jiggery pokery with the tarrifs which may actually INCREASE PRICES.
If the government are making many times more than the utility company don't you think the public have a right to know. That it is worth looking at further?
And remember, they are going to lump us all with more gang green charges.
Remember, we're not all Malthusians and many of us haven't swallowed the global whamming cool aid.
