Utility Bill Hikes - It's Cameron That's behind them
I did a calculation based on Centrica's accounts for 2011. Centrica is the parent company of British Gas, supplying 40% of households with gas.
It looks like everyone who blames the "greedy companies" for the price hikes are wrong...
Tax and Gang Green Taxes = around 20%
Company Profit = less than 3%.
So, the lying toads in Westminster are delighted to leave you fooled and make helpful suggestions, like changing supplier. A waste of time, there can be no competition when Cameron takes the Lion's share.
Privatisation's a fraud, just to enable gouging of the poor trying to heat their homes, vile isn't it?
google ikidu0 and bills
google centrica accounts 2011 to find the pdf

Ummm...
Where exactly are you getting figures for green taxes from?
If you're claiming there have been recent price rises due to tax rises - when did these occur, and what were they?
I note they say that the residential energy profit is 6%, not 3.
(Page 2, first column)
http://www.centrica.com/files/reports/2011ar/files/pdf/centrica_annual_report_2011.pdf
I can find no relevant '20%' figure in the document.0 -
Southern Electric break down their supply costs here:
http://www.southern-electric.co.uk/cost/
The same information is included on their bills.
For electricity, 11% goes towards the cost of government schemes including environmental and social schemes.
For gas, it is just 3%
On top of that, we all know there is 5% VAT charged
(Their profit is 8% for gas and 3% for electricity)0 -
just go off the oft report on petrol, they blame the oil companys when in fact its the goverment taxDon't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.0

These figures are the combined ones for gas and electricity, I refer you to page 36/31 and you can see from the diagram, that the profit from gas alone is somewhat less at 5%.
To arrive at the figure of less than 3% profit and 20% taken by the Chancy Liar in tax and gang green charges, I took into account some of the hidden taxes. Don't worry YOU still have them in your bill! For example: 20% company tax on profits etc etc....

Refering to Centrica's official accounts:
Well, if you have the pdf, navigate to what the pdf software indicates as p136 (printed as p132 on the document). The heading is "PERFORMANCE MEASURES" and down from that, "Residential energy supply", look under the column Fy 2011, you will see, operating profit posted as £522 million and an operating margin of 6.4%.
To put this figure in perspective, in the same column, Total environmental costs and Total social costs together come to £502 million, and of course this doesn't include VAT.

You only pay corporation tax on profit, so that's 20% of 3% at most - likely to be even less after other expenses are taken into consideration
As for PAYE, well really thats just a tiny amount too since it'll all be within the 6% 'Looking after you' section. Of course PAYE is only a fraction of wages and not all that 6% will be wages anyway.
Edit: I see you changed your post0 -

Your title was 'Hikes'.
This is increases over the near term.
A substantial fraction of this tax bill has been constant for the last several years.
It is not the cause of recent rises.0 -

So, 40% off 6.4% is around 3.8%, and it would be a bit less for gas alone.
And, you are quite right re the operating profit being clear of PAYE etc. I would argue though, that it will not be trivial. Remember, it includes the wages of engineers, pipeline maintenance when you consider what the transport costs consist of.
I can't say that I'm 100% accurate, but I stand by my figures. If you want to argue, that I'm "wrong" because I'm a out a tiny bit here or there...Frankly, i don't have the time nor inclination...
But, thanks for your response.0 -

Well, it seems strange, that a site who is supposedly "pro-consumer" expert, echos the press blaming all the 'greedy' Utility Companies, yeah?
No, doubt there are plenty of posts on this very forum on that very subject.
But, when i point out, that it might not be the utility companies....
