Avoid them like the plague! Very difficult to deal with

I really liked the girls in perfect day, as a short dumpy bride to be myself I thought they were awesum. I didn't buy my dress from them but that was because i found the 'one' in another shop

Ive got my dress in Elody bridal newry in the end, they're great too obviously.

Let me be honest with you though, there is really only about 8 different styles, don't try on dresses of the same styles until your DD knows what suits her height and shape, only when she picks a certain style would I bother really with details and thats when you'll pick a certain retailer over others.

If she's 5'4 and a size 10 + 8 she can have mine in the summer lol :rotfl:
  • Thank you everyone for all your suggestions and positive support, and advice on who should be avoided.

We are really looking forward to the wedding and the planning of it but it's knowing where the bargains are to be found.

I have a lot of things to look at and will enjoy investigating all the suggestions made.

Thanks again and I will keep you all posted.

PS - I live in the East Belfast/Holywood area.

I would avoid Perfect Day too. I've heard lots and lots of horror stories about them.

The SA was so nasty to my friend when she was dress shopping, making snide remarks about her weight when she was the size of a house herself  This was 3 months ago btw.

    Absolutely awful.

I've heard the horror stories and experienced them. It seems their two most common lies are:

    1) This is next years dress that we've got in early - you won't get this anywhere else until next year

    2) We are exclusive stockists of this dress - you won't get it anywhere else

As I said, avoid like the plague. They do not get next years dresses and they are not exclusive stockists

That sounds about right. When I was in with my friend, they spun her all sorts of nonsense lines. It makes me cross even thinking about it.

I also saw (via a wedding blog on FB) a bride asking where she could find 3 BM dresses cheaply, her budget was about £100-120 per dress. The owner of Perfect Day barged into the thread and belittled the poor bride, saying that no way could you ever get a BM dress that cheap. I felt so sorry for her. Thankfully others came to her rescue with helpful suggestions :) and I'm sure that she got sorted in the end.

My MIL mentioned that she might go there for her outfit for our wedding (she's from the area so had heard of Perfect Day), I advised her not to and told her about our experience, she was horrified!

  • Hi, I'm a plus size bride and getting married in August. I got my dress from Angel Star Brides in Carrickfergus. They have a huge range and are plus size specialists. I had a wonderful morning trying on dresses there and they were also really reasonably proced. In fact, it was the first shop I went to and I ended up ordering my dress that day. I had such a good experience and found such a gorgeous dress that I didn't feel the need to go anywhere else!

  • another shop to avoid is deborah rose in comber - i was a size 12 when i went in and she told me i was too 'big' to try on some of the dresses. Not that the dresses were too small - i was too big!

we got married in 2010 and did a lot of stuff ourselves, made the invitations from stuff on ebay, made our own table plan, and shopped around for things like the cake (can highly recommend lesley heaney in newtownabbey)
