I've just changed my tariff with EDF(Very easy to do on-line).I'm a really low energy user and hopefully it will save me £7 a month but as above they may have just had a higher rate before.

Also,as an aside,I thought,"Standing charges" were abolished years ago but all these suppliers still seem to have sneaked them in.As I work away I'm sure I'm paying over-the-odds even when I use next to no electric or gas :O

Just a line to say that actually Dave from Scottish Power has now been very helpful - things are not yet sorted but that is not his fault. Credit where it is due!! Thanks Dave

If EDF are cheaper than npower and Ebico then I doubt you have a really low use. It isn't suppliers choosing to reintroduce standing charges by themselves - politicians, regulators and consumer groups have all swung to the right and are forcing the reintroduction. Of course, the suppliers are laughing hilariously and are delighted by this crazy windfall.
