Anyone had success in getting a better deal with their existing energy provider ?

Eon want to increase by direct debit by £28 a month for duel fuel from £218 to £246 for the next year.
Npower is coming out at £300 cheaper on uswitch and money supermarket comparison sites but they get a bad name on here.
Just wondered if anyone has had success by threatening to walk away and ended up with a better deal with their existing supplier.

Do you really think Eon are worth £300 a year more than nPower.
After all, the only difference in any supplier is billing and customer service.
Residential tariffs are non-negotiable. All a supplier can do is put you on a better tariff for you (but any comparison site will show if there is a better tariff available) or possibly offer a goodwill gesture payment.
Only BG seem to offer these [STRIKE]bribes[/STRIKE] goodwill gestures in these circumstances ... and even they seem to have clamped down recently.
You'll never get a £300 goodwill gesture from any supplier.0 -
I have never seen so many complaints about any other company, basically i have been told so many different things by different people at EON i do wonder who trained these people, they all say different things, i wont be staying when my contract is up0

I really dont know where EON get their figures from, if you read any of my eariler posts you will see the hassle i have had with them, and there seems to be more complaints about thyem than any other fuel supplier, i have gone from £86 a month, quoted by the person who signed me up, to £265 a month,[sorry it was a mistake] i kept being told,, they all tell you different things, even that Electricty used to be the most expensive, now its gas, [since when?] who trained that man, now down to £115 a month i dont trust EON one bit,and will NOT be staying with them when my contract is up,0

I am having great difficulty even moving onto a better rate with the current supplier - Scottish Power. We have rented a property which has a day and night electric despite having no storage heaters etc - Scottish Power firstly told me that the tariffs were not that different(?) then asked me to provide a reading for another week before they would consider the position
Oh and the Gas is a prepayment meter which is obviously costing more despite the fact we are a business with an excellent credit reference
I did try emailing Dave from Scottish Power last Thursday - not particularly wanting to put more moaning posts about Scottish Power on MSE, but have had no reply (seems about as helpful to me as he seems to have been to others on here recently!)Downshifted

I'm sorry, but you are far less protected as a business than if you were a consumer. Different rules also apply which may be why you cannot leave your current supplier without appropriate notice. Tariffs are also different.
I don't know if the SP rep on here deals on the business to business side of things - he may only represent the residential consumer.0 -
Oh well......................bit the bullet and just moved to NPower....alleged £300 annual saving.I joined Martin's energy saving club today and Npower were second best to some company called Spark where the alleged savings were £600  Got slated in the reviews so chickened out going with them.12 panels south facing,8 panels south-east facing,4KWP system, pitch 40 degrees,Aurora inverter & location is sunny Glasgow.0

Remember also npower gives you after 12 direct debits {both fuels} £100 direct into your bank account and easy to contact when I was with them0 -

I have been with EDF for many years and changed tariff with them a few months ago. Very easy to do online on their own site. Within your own secure account area there is a feature to check against their own other tariffs and if there is one you prefer you simply select it, confirm a few details and you get an instant change. Everything is done for you and you don't have to input any figures because they use these from your own account. OK they may not always be the cheapest for everyone but in my case I saved £22 a month instantly without any hassle and fixed my deal too.If money saving starts to involve irritation or frustration the fine line between thrift and greed should be examined.0

Over £250 a year saving with the same supplier? Are you sure?
Congratulations if that is what you actually achieved, but it does seem rather high.
MSE Martin suggests only about £250 p.a average saving moving from an old legacy suppliers standard tariff to the best of all the rest.
You sure they haven't just hood winked you by lowering your monthly DD? Or were you just being ripped off on the previous tariff?
I would suggest you do a price comparison as the MSE article suggests:
