    Not true.

Many building societies allow direct debits.

    Yorkshire bs/ cumberland/ Coventry/ Derbyshire/ Furness/ just to name a few so your,statement is wrong.

You sound like an advert for secure trust

    Hmm let's see here....
You need £100 upfront to open a Yorkshire B/S Transactor account, when I last checked the Derbyshire Cash Account didn't real allow direct debits. Local Building Societies are fine IF you live in area that is served by them.

Like Anthon I have an STB account , it was my ONLY option during IVA . In my experience talk of easily available basic bank accounts was pure fantasy, you WILL be credit checked and refused (been there, done that, got the T-shirt).
The STB account isn't perfect the payment card is treated as a credit card and is not accepted at discount supermarkets but as a viable option it works and actually has some advantages (e.g I can pay in at my local covenience store).
  • Yes I know they charge but these are the only options left.

I need something to have salary/benefits paid into. Doesn't need to do direct debits or standing orders.

I just wondered if anyone had/is using them?

I have tried looking for reviews but can't find any. Or does anyone have any experience with a similar type of account?

    Thank you :)

they suck you in, with no credit check required etc, easy to open, once you open the account they start telling you all the things (which is nearly everything) you cant do unless you send in documentation etc.

I had an account with eccount, they're not bad, I wouldn't say that there was anything wrong with them in fairness but for £12.50 a month, you don't really get a lot other than quite literally a basic bank account, there are other basic accounts that are either completely free for the same service or there are some that charge half of that fee and you get a lot more features and benefits, this is why I decided to let my eccount go, when you stop paying the fee they just close it after a month end of, I guess it just depends what you need from an account but I just wanted a bit more for a monthly fee, that's all.
  • My son-in-law opened and Eccount about 18 months ago as he had no passport or driving licence to produce as confirmation of identity. He has had nothing but problems. About 6 week ago he went to use and ATM which swallowed his card. When he enquired at the shop where the ATM was stationed he was informed that it was out of service. When he telephone to speak to the Eccount people he was told that he would be sent a new card but that it would cost him £5, even though it was not his fault. He asked them to transfer money to my account and gave them my bank details. They said this would cost him £10. A week later the transfer had still not taken place and he had not received a replacement card either. He telephoned again and they seemed to be very confused about what he wanted regarding the transfer as they had sent the money bank to the Tuxedo account (by the way the call centre is based in India so he couldn't understand half of what they said). When the new card arrived he went to use it and it was refused! He telephoned again and was told that because the first card had been swallowed they had closed his original account and opened a new one but had sent the card out for his old account. They then wanted a further £5 for this new card. He then informed them that he wanted to close the account as he had so much trouble (I had still not received the payment and never have to this date!). They said they would send him a cheque for his money and further cheques for the fees they had charged him by way of compensation for the trouble he had. He received the cheque last week and banked it into his new (proper) bank account. The cheque arrived back to his home this morning - bounced - with 'Refer to Drawer' on it!!!! He is now at his new bank probably causing mayhem, to try to sort it out as it was them - NatWest - who originally sorted out this Tuxedo, Eccount for him. I would say don't touch them with a barge pole....watch this space...
