I helped an elderly relative to fill in the on line Government 'form' to see if he might be eligible for Pension Credit. It came back after filling in all the details for him that he would be eligible for 19 pence per week Pension Credit if he applied.

Is it worth his while applying? I'm not sure if this small amount would enable him to be eligible for any other 'passported' type of benefit. At present he does not have any means tested benefits.

Thank you very much for any advice or information

Thanks very much, nannytone. He's gone home now and doesn't have a computer but I'll let him know.

will depend if the entitlement is Guaranteed or savings credit only. If it has a an element of guaranteed credit then it passport to others like full council/housing benefit. If it is only savings credit, then it is not the passported benefit, he would then fall under the qualifing conditions for capital ie if he has over £16k then he would not get full housing/council, dental costs etc, if that is the case then he has to determine if it is worth it, as it does not give much help in that instance.

Thank you anmarj. He has about £7000 savings in total (some of which is reserved for bills to arrive soon) but I'm not sure if it was 19 pence for savings credit or for the other one ? Guarantee - I think it said 19 pence Pension Credit.

Oh - a big congratulations on the arrival of your little one. It's great that you can contribute to this forum so soon after having a baby - sleepless nights etc. x x x

Is there any question of disability involved with your relative? Do they live on their own?

If so the Pension Service/Carers Service visiting team are fantastic they come out to see the person and go through all of the extra benefits that they may be able to claim for. They also do all of the form filling as well.
