Seen this advertised by Adrian Flux and thought it seemed like a good idea. Does anyone here have an opinion?

£39.95 per year for "all" your gadgets (including laptops) as long as they were purchased new & within 3 years old.
Covers accidental damage, loss (but ONLY for phones / PDA's), theft, breakdown (excludes laptops) & worldwide cover.
I have a MacBook Pro & an iPhone 5. Both have AppleCare, but obviously that doesn't cover accidental damage. I used to have my phone insured but stopped it as premiums for expensive smartphones got very expensive.
I also have a Nikon DSLR but that was purchased refurbished (but from a reputable retailer) so I'm guessing that wouldn't be covered which is fair enough.

£1000 limit so if your macbook and iphone are stolen, you'll only get £1k.
I would stick to home insurance for theft, accidental damage etc.. Then you get to choose the right amount of cover.
Read the exclusions carefully and note that its not 'new for old'.0 -

I was thinking more for my phone itself but the chance to even get a bit back if I drop my Mac is nice as well.
I live with my parents and they wouldn't be happy claiming on it so theres no point adding my stuff to their policy.
I don't mind if it's not new for old - if I have to replace a now second-hand iPhone with a second hand one thats not the end of the world.Nothing I say represents any past, present or future employer.0 -

Supercover are the underwriters to my policy with Adrian Flux gadget insurance.! Under £40 a year for gadget cover seemed a good offer.
Until...
My Laptop accidental damage claim, the policy states a like for like replacement or better where like for like is not possible if they cant repair it.
It has been a dam nightmare dealing with them, to start u have to call a premium number to get through to supercover unless u call adrian flux to transfer u onwards. Regarding this claim, they emailed to say that parts have been ordered for my laptop repair, i thought ok so ill wait. 2-3weeks pass.! I chase for an update, they then email me to say that my laptop is going through quality checks. Ok then great news! So i continue to wait, 5-6 weeks gone by now. But iv been patient, they got the job done so i wont complain as these things take time.! I dont hear anything for a while so i call several times, i am told 4 times that ill get a call back because they need to enquire. No one called me back once.!
I get an email to say that unfortunately they can't repair it and it is with the stock team to be replaced.! I am confused..what the hell just happened.
I call and they say sry that it now cant be fixed so they will replace it. I still didn't complain, thinking fine just get it sorted.
I call them again after a little time to see whats happening with a replacement, im told they cant find a suitable replacement. So i contact the company i purchased the laptop from and asked them to provide a like for like replacement (where possible) on the laptop i previously purchased from them. So they do, and i forward it onto supercover.
Now today, 8 weeks since this headache started i am told that the replacement laptop is a higher spec and they wont order it, and then they offered me some money. I complained, so they offered me an extra £50.
I explain there own policy to them, that they will replace an item like for like where possible or better if not available. Not" try and negotiate out of the agreement hoping ill accept and walk away.
I countered with a yes, ill take the cash despite u not fullfilling the agreement on the policy but i want my original laptop back also. They followed with telling me that they now own my laptop!
Today i await a call from a manager regarding all of this, but enough to say u should avoid this policy like the plague.
Spoke to Adrian flux about there underwriters but they pass the buck.
I will update this if there is an improvement in outcome, if no update then u know the score.0 -
Firstly its a 0844 number not a premium rate in the current policy book as per https://www.adrianflux.co.uk/extras/gadget/gadget-policy-document-wording.pdf and the underwriter is Ageas. Supercover are the administrators and UK General Insurance are an MGA of Ageas
Have you followed the complaints process in the policybook and put your complaint to UK General?0 -
If its not national landline or free, then 0844 is at an extra cost 20-40p per minute on mobile. Most would agree that its a premium.
Supercover are the underwriters, as informed to me directly from Adrian flux.
if the policy sais otherwise then u can add that to the missinformation given to me by AF.
Nice try at debunking what i have written, but not happening.0 -

Premium rate telephone numbers are regulated by Phone Pay Plus on behalf of OfCom and they dont cover 0844 numbers
Supercover are not an insurance company, if you read the policybook I linked to on the Adrian Flux website it says that Ageas are the underwriters/ insurer.
Supercover are simply administrators for the policy.
UK General have a delegated authority to create products and price them from Ageas by being a managing general agent (MGA). In some cases the delegated authority goes so far that they may as well be the underwriter/ insurer but legally it is Ageas that is the one on the hook hence they are the only one that is regulated by the PRA.
The question does remain though, have you followed the complaints process as outlined in the policybook and raised the complaint to UK General?0
