Hi everyone,
I'm thinking of buying a Honda Civic 05 Reg, and I was wondering if the original stereo can be taken out and replaced with a new one? Because I would like to buy a new stereo to play my Ipod and attach my bass speakers.
Any advice would be helpful

Yes it can. I did so in the Civic I had.
You will need to buy a facia adapter to go in where the previous stereo was and the instal the new stereo into this. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
The Civic 2001-2006 should have an Aux (top right CD/AUX)
You just need the cable to connect the iPod. Of course you then have the cable sticking out somewhere
but should cost a fiver... instead of cost of a new stereo and facia.0 -

as he wants to add his bass speakers (presumably bass box) sounds like he is looking for a head unit upgrade rather than just ipod functionality.0 -

If the OP wants to go and spend a lot they can do a whole head unit upgrade and have bluetooth and the works...
If the OP simply wants to connect some bass speakers the Civic stereo should be capable of driving them and they can use the AUX to connect an iPod...
Its a bit of a quantum leap in price though ..... so just wanted to make sure the OP knew that they can actually connect an iPod and some bass speakers to the factory one....
Its all a a matter of what they want to spend...
I spent £600 on a leather interior but wouldn't spend £250 upgrading a head unit.... the OP might have exactly the opposite  preference....0 -
I had a look at the Honda Civic today and only saw a aux/cd button, but no aux plug in hole.
I will probably just replace the original with a new one, with a aux hole.
Thank you for your help those guys!0 -

My son has an 06 one, i think the aux plug is in the glovebox or somewhere. I will check tomorrow morning and let you know.
The standard system is very good and is fully integrated inc steering controls - with an aftermarket system you will lose all that - unless you spend a lot on adapters - for very little gain in terms of sound quality.0 -

I'm looking to buy the 2005 reg, so it would an older version of your sons Honda Civic.0 -

Still, the point is its either already fitted OR can be added.
If you want to spend upwards of £1000 then you can go somewhere like Cartronics ... when you leave the new head unit will be connected to the bass and the steering wheel.
If this is worth it to you in a 06 Accord then you really need professional advice from a specialist (like Cartronics) as you need a lot of specialist looms and wiring to keep the steering wheel controls....
If you want to spend less you can replace the head unit BUT lose the steering wheel controls but gain an aux-plug in the head unit itself and possibly better stereo. If you do this then you can get DAB as well.
If you don't have one in the 06 (but I suspect you do and its hidden next to the cigar lighter in a small panel or in the glove box) then you can fit an aux into the glove box one of the blind spaces (where you stick optional buttons), in the centre arm console, glove box .. etc. etc...
You can also get a cheap BT that plugs into the aux .. etc.
If you want to change AND make sure it works with the steering wheel make sure you get someone knows what they are doing.. without looking at a wiring diagram I suspect the drivers airbag circuit also passes close to the wiring for the stereo to steering wheel! Should this blow you're in for an expensive time.0 -
The Civic from that year did not have a steering control column.
Changing stereo is just a matter of purchasing fascia adapter and the head unit. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0
