Check the tyres yourself. get a gauge to measure the tread depth. If they are above 1.6mm they are legal.
Some garages will say 2mm or 3mm tyres need replacing, But they are still legal. Pads were completely worn. Again they may say 3 or 4mm on those are badly worn. Yet still doing the job and will do for thousands of miles yet.
