Skoda Fabia 1.4 Noise on starting?

About to buy second hand Skoda Fabia 1.4 only fault I can see is it makes a slight metallic noise when started from cold. Dealers says they all do this so do the VWs polos which have same platform. Any comments?

Not so, if it is a harsh clatter soon after starting for a few seconds it could be valve gear (vairable valve timing actuator) Needs checking ! What year and mileage ?

My brother in laws skoda fabia (1.9 diesel) makes a strange noise when first starting the engine. Been like that for over a year but in my opinion it doesn't sound very healthy though the car is running fine.Well, when it's not needing money spent on it every year for the mot.
