I'm curious as to how you reached these conclusions. The OP needs a second opinion from someone who has seen the boiler.

Well unless we all go round to look at it he isn't going to get that here is he. What you are telling the OP is that it's pointless posting here.....I agree, without more info thats all that can be said.

What I was trying to say was that as "macman".... says just because an engineer says it's bust doesn't mean that it's unrepairable, obviously a £900 quote proves this.

However instead of spending that sort of money (and seeing the age of the boiler....and taking into account it has stopped working completely) it points to the item that controls the function of the boiler ....the PCB, not a component such as heat exchanger or pump....if it were one of these then the boiler would be still operative to some extent.

We all are in the dark really as to what the OP means by "bust".

This term does not confirm the present functionality of the boiler...so non of us can outrightly say whats wrong or whats not wrong with it.

    I refer you to Posts 8 + 9.

"Boiler is busted" means??? Nobody knows as the OP hasn't posted back. Must be a bit arctic there by now.....icicles outside and in.

Perhaps you could post back when you have your boiler situation sorted i.e. what have they actually repaired. The thread has had over 600 viewings so far and it could help others who find themselves in a similar position.;)

If you are paying out £900 for an unspecified fault repair, without even getting a proper diagnosis or a second quote, then I'm not really surprised that 'money is tight'. That's because you're probably throwing it away.

  • hi all,

well, we paid £400 as HomeSever pay the first £500 of a claim.
im sorry i cant give anymore information on the issue but, please feel free to leave comment that will help others.

i liked the comment about buying a good quality boiler or i could be in the same position in 12 months. we all hate parting with money so make sure you buy one that come with long guarantees and warrants.

    all the best.
  • well there we go folks nearly 800 views & none of us are any the wiser as to what the problem was

OP did you not even ask them what was wrong with it or are you in the habit of just handing over £400 without a second thought ? I bet the repair company can't wait to get back to your house
I'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.

You get no BS from me & if I think you are wrong I WILL tell you.

Don't follow. You can't post the details or won't post the details??? It would be helpful to other MSERs if you did and make those of us who have taken the time to post feel that we haven't wasted our time.
