  • This may seem a silly suggestion, but since you don't know when you might use this and the SIM has a finite life before activation, why not take it back to Argos and buy one next time you need one.

I use a Bluetooth connection to a phone for occasional internet access.

Also I've had a T-Mobile dongle, your one may be better but I couldn't make the dongle manager work without problems when the PC shuts down.

I've now got a MiFi device for when the family goes to places without WiFi. No drivers or software required.

T-Mobile Dongle is very good. It is in fact Huawei E3131, capable of 4G among other things.
    Specs at
    http://www.mobile2wifi.co.uk/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=154

I bought from Curry's for £10 with no data and got an unlocking code from eBay for £1.
Now it works others such as '3' and Voda. It has a microSD memory card slot and it worked with a 32 GB Sandisk Ultra that I have.
Have tried it in a PC and four different laptops/ultrabooks without any probs.

BTW. you can get limited amount of FREE data, text and phone calls with Ovivomobile and Sambamobile.
    See other threads for details.
