Hi Folks

I am with Eon at the moment for both my gas and electricity supply and on monthly sirect debit.

What is the best way to work out if I can get a better deal from other suppliers?

It seems all too complicated for me!

Thanks in advance for your responses.

  • Not complicated at all.
Use a comparison site and all will be revealed, enter your annual usage in kwh not your monthly spend and your current tariff and payment method.
I use "energyhelpline" but others are, uswitch, switchwithwhich, and plenty more.

Fairly simple, use a comparation website and enter your monthly dd etc.
But for a more accurate result call Eon and ask for your yearly usage and enter these.
This will give you a list of suppliers and how much cheaper they are, you then just need to decide which is best for you.
If you go through a cashback site (quidco/TCB) you may get some more money back ( i know scotish power are offering £80 @ TCB).

Your annual kWh consumption is on your annual statement. using monthly DD figures produces less accurate results.
Once you have those figures, the comp site process takes less than 2 minutes.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
  • It's not quite as simple as has been intimated. You certainly get a list of the cheapest suppliers/tariffs but that isn't where your research should stop as many of the tariffs have T&Cs attached to them which may not be attractive to you.

My advice would be to get your last 12 months consumption figures then post them up on here along with your billing area and we will have a butchers.

    Hi Folks

    Many thanks for you replies.

I'm with E ON at the moment and they have told me my annual consumption for gas is 24920 and electricity is 3809.

I thought it might be more complicated than just putting the figures on a comparison site, because of various discount offered for duel fuel, monthly direct debits, on line tariffs, and cash back.

If someone can be kind enough to help me out on this, I would be most grateful.

    Thank You.

We would need to know the area in which you live, no need for a post code or anything personal just the billing tariff area as they all differ.

No it is as simple as that. The comparison sites take into account discounts such as DD and Dual fuel.

But as Millicent states when you have decided on a new tariff, cheapest?, study the T&C's closely to make sure it suits you. There have been posts on here about a Npower tariff that people thought was a fixed tariff but turned out to be anything but.
  • Seems easy - 'til you get into it first time though...

I'm just looking at comparisons and also with E-On atm.
Anyone know if the estimated prices given by comp sites include current VAT or not? I had a quote direct from EDF that doesn't match the uSwitch comparison. Possibly VAT could be the difference.

I think all the comparison sites include VAT in their figures, the energy companies dont always include it
    Missing Tesco R&R since Feb '07 :A & now a "Tesco veteran" apparently! ;)
