Friday 1st February 2013 - What small DFW things will you do today??

  • Morning all. Day 3 for me.....

I'm finding myself questioning every time I spend money which is good.
DS once again asked me for money for his haircut so I had to give in!
He was also due his "pay" for yesterday (more explained below)*.....
Car needed to be filled to the brim and that was £62 (ouch!). Had no choice. I hate filling it - it's not money saving at all.

I'm going to have to be canny today. Have a lunchtime appointment which might spiral a bit. If I'm not careful, I may end up with some fast food or a snack for lunch which will not only start my diet badly, but will hurt my wallet!

I have no cash (all stripped) so I suppose I can't get fleeced that way.

Going to see our new place today which will be great!

*My DS is on a work placement which he doesn't get paid for. So I give him the child allowance as "pay". When he doesn't go to work (holidays, exams etc.), he doesn't get paid. Simples.

    Hello there :)

I’m still buzzing from finding out I’m off to the US with work for 2 weeks. :D Have a weekend off in between to visit pals in NYC too :T Thanks for all the well wishes yest. :)

    Here’s me:
    - Cheapo porridge brekkie
    - Packed lunch – even though it’s Friday – used to be a day I ‘gave in’
    - Finished survey - £4 have another £42 to get through…
    - Tidying round tonight as away walking tomorrow
    - Friday night ‘fake away’ on the cards
    - Arrange our picnic for our walk tomorrow – not really a picnic because that reminds me of laying out on a rug in the summer :p
    - Checked banking – all as expected unfortunately with no magic money appearing :)
    - Claimed expenses
    - Send card online
    - Made my own tortilla chips – cheap tortilla wraps (sometimes HM), cut up into triangles and fried – much nicer than shop-bought and you know what’s in them

Ziggy – random question – but would you be interested in dog walking my pooch when I’m away? If you are (we live just up the hill from you really – I had a little look ;)) PM me and we can sort out details/payment etc. It’s just that my OH can’t get home on his lunch break to walk him so it’d be great if someone could pop in even just for half hour to walk him round the block, give him a cuddle etc a couple of afternoons.
  • Hi everyone,

Well I must say everyone is really busy moneysaving and I find you all really inspriational!

    Here's my list:-

2 x loads of washing (one in and one when I get home from work)

    All meals from stores

Pop to Lidl for some bits - will keep it to the minimum

Plan for town tomorrow - need to return a couple of bits and pick up some stuff from the bargain stores/pound stores

    Read book

Carry on with my meal list - im typing up a list of meals to help with meal planning

Check bank - print off statement to have a good look at over the weekend when I have more time

    Thats it I think!

    Have a lovely day all
    xxx
  • Not posted on these threads before but enjoying doing my diary so thought i would post here too.

    Today i've:
    - Checked my online banking and updated my monthly spreadsheet
    - Sorted out 2 pairs of shoes to return which will be £65.00 back on my card
    - Decided i prefer a body shop body lotion over a much more expensive one so returning the expensive one = £30 back
    - Put back a magazine i really didn't need and reminded myself that i have 000's of books waiting to be read

Found 6 tubs of blokes face scrub for a quid at a local beauty shop closing down. Should keep the mr in scrub for a while (since he started at a call centre, he's had dry flaky skin, so he's a scrubbing, moisturising man now!)
    On the up :D

  • Hi all :) Hope everyone is well!

Here are some things I've done and some I'm planning to do today...

    Done
    *Checked online banking
    *Lunch & snacks from stores
*Checked my entitlement for WTC's (not entitled to anything apparently because I'm under 25 and not disabled but only earn £424 a month from an Apprenticeship!)
    *Walked the dog
*Free parking to go get hair cut

    To Do
*Check if I'm entitled to any other benefits due to low income
    *Tweak budget
*Stay in & watch 8 out of 10 Cats tonight instead of going out
    *Dinner from stores
*Find best website to sell Samsung Galaxy tablet & iPhone 3GS

Does anyone one here know of any help I can get with money while I'm on my Apprenticeship by the way? At the moment I keep hitting dead ends because I'm 23, working over 16 hours and under 30 hours and don't have children! Any help would be AMAZING!!!! :D

    Hello Friday people,
*Busy morning cleaning entire house. I only do it once a week so no-one could say I rack up the electricity bill with the hoover, lol!
*Cleared out cleaning/household cupboard, mainly because I'd forgotten what was in there. Packed a plastic crate with all the new unopened stuff so I can easily see what we've got & not waste money buying stuff I don't need.
*Did surveys. May join 'Onepoll' later. The Ugov survey was on my opinion of bankers, so I was able to vent a nice bit of vitriol & that's set me up for the day.
*Been doing a lot of thinking about small quirky ways to save in which I won't really notice the money.....I already have a big pennies jar, I've been thinking about other low-key things. I quite like the idea of logging into online banking everyday & transferring the odd pence into savings account, but think my account only allows transfer of whole pounds. I'm going to keep thinking.....quite enjoying the mental exercise of trying to come up with something a bit different.
*Mr foxgloves v chuffed to have saved £8 at the barber's by shaving his head. Apparently a colleague said what a lovely job 'the barber' had made of it & how you can only ever get it that good when the barber does it.....he enjoyed saying it was his own work, with me being called upon to look for any weird tufts!!
*No heating on downstairs & turned all the upstairs heating down to lower temperature now that it's not so icy.
Think that's everything for me so far. Have a lovely weekend, everyone. I'm planning on hitting town with all my vouchers.....shall be gutted if any actual pence leap out of my bag.
