Issue with returning an item

3 weeks ago my partner bought a 32" HD Ready TV from Littlewoods with credit. As soon as it arrived we turned it on only to find that the picture quality was terrible and it actually gave us headaches and made us feel quite sick. We instantly rang up Littlewoods to arrange for a return which they accepted. 3 weeks on, the TV still hasn't been collected, despite numerous phone calls.

Earlier today, my partner rang up only to be told that we may not be able to return the product because it's not faulty but they would once again arrange for a collection (yes, another "collection" date which probably won't happen).

Surely, if the product is affecting our health due to the picture quality, we should be allowed to return it on the grounds that it is not of satisfactory quality?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Terrible compared to what? What were you watching and what were you using to connect it to the tv?

    What price did you pay?

The picture quality is terrible compared to other TV's with the same specifications. We tried watching various channels via our Sky HD box. This included a movie, a football match, news and a couple of TV Shows. When this didn't work, I tried playing a DVD via my XBOX and the picture quality was still bad. We tried connecting by both HDMI and Scart.

The TV is priced at £319 but with interest due to monthly payments over 2 years, it will cost upwards of £550. We have not made the first payment yet as we are not due to pay until March.
  • Although I cannot say much to the picture as I cannot see it. I know that I have photo-sensitivity and certain tv types such as LCD hurt my eyes and looks blurry (despite being sharper than plasma's).

While waiting on their next promised collection, it's perhaps worth checking the above as unholyangel said and also going into somewhere such as PC World/Currys which usually have live tv's up as well.

I know it may not be much help but perhaps worth making sure first

We done some research prior to getting this TV and it had the same specs as a lot of other TV's that we had seen in stores and they had no issues. We assumed that it would be the same with this one, so we ordered it due to the "pay monthly" option.

Really don't want to be stuck paying for a TV that we can't watch due to a horrendously blurry picture or having to turn it off because we feel sick.

There should be a noticeable difference between scart and HDMI, HDMI (with gold connectors) being the better.

Its not full HD so its never going to be crystal clear. Have you tried different settings to see if any of them help?

Yeah, we fiddled around with the setting to see if we could "make the most of it" but nothing seemed to actually do anything other than change the brightness.

And did you test these in the confines of your home too? There's a big difference between spending a few minutes with a TV setup in store and watching a TV for hours on end in your home environment. Maybe it's just that this sort of TV isn't for you or you simply haven't set it up correctly. I would very much doubt it's faulty based on your description and certainly wouldn't be classed as "unfit for purpose".

I'd head over to the Avforums.com website and check out the forums there, they may be of help.

    What's the make/model?

It doesn't seem as though you have read my post properly.

We ordered it from Littlewoods due to having seen TV's with the same specs in stores. We tried the TV in our home and this is when we found the quality to be poor and due to this, it made myself and my partner feel sick and get a headache.

I have discussed the issue with Citizens Advice Bureau and they have notified me that we are able to cite both the Sale of Goods Act of 1979 (Not of satisfactory quality) and the Distance Buying Act (I think that's what it's called) if they refuse to refund us.

So what do you want from this forum's users?

By the way, it's Distance Selling Regulations.

Have you taken up the offer from Chris, Littlewoods company representative?
