Well done to you, how dare they treat you the way they did!!!
I worked for tesco for 10 years and the checkout staff can be real A HOLES .
Tesco do make the money back on the coupons and I can 100% say the only reason you have been treated this way is purely BECAUSE THEY ARE JEALOUS and I have witnessed this first hand in the store I worked for [BOURNEMOUTH]
Blimey I could tell you some stories but lets not get me started.
WELL DONE ONCE AGAIN ;D0 -

Oh go on, please tell ;D0 -
Ok just a tame one!!!
A friend and I were on out lunch break and decided to go buy some luch, we took it to the customer service desk to pay and also produced our coupons which the girl was happy to take until one of the checkout runners came along and eyed them up SAYING we could not use them bla bla bla.
My friend and I in the end didnt use our coupons.
The following week I was on the customer service desk
when the same runner came over with some shopping to pay for and GUESS WHAT she wanted to pay with OH YES COUPONS I did say that I could not accept some trying to play her at her own game but no because these runners think they have the power of god in tesco.
She was going into the cash office when she knew the coupons had been sent there and writing down the web addresses and going home and printing them out, she used to get so angry with me wanting to know where and how I used to get so many she also used to look at me like a bulldog chewing on a wasp.0 -
Hey glad u got it sorted, she had no right to pull you over and try and humiliate you in from of people. if you can work the system to your advantage why not.
i never understood coupons myself - they really take ones for things you haven't bought? where do u get them from?0 -
Hi again all .... MANY THANKS for the supportive posts & points ... Well first venture back in tescos since, went back to nice young girl who served me last week & THANKED her for speaking up on my behalf ... NO PROBLEMS splitting my two £12 shops ( 2 X £3.40 worth coupons each time ) she did say however at the following staff meeting some checkout operators had a dressing down for the way they speak to some customers as I was not the only person to complain.... PLEASE dont get me wrong at times customers can be just as rude as staff but I am ALWAYS polite at the tills saying please & thank you and I expect the same in return !.....0

As I found out today when I offered them a 20p coupon for something I had not bought.
The girl behind the till told me she would lose her commission. ???
The commission thing is rubbish. but Express are stricter than Superstores. They have been told by HO it is up to the Site Manager to decide what he wants to do regarding coupons, as it is technically his store. This was relayed to a customer after he complained. Some are stricter than others, and the same with some CA's, also cause you buy less in Express, on average, it is harder to slip the odd coupon by. If you do you are lucky!0 -

I want to know how you managed to drag this old thread up
I think it is a bit rich of Tesco to accept coupns for items not bought and to then claim the money from the manufacturers. And then to say it is for the store managers to put their own arbitrary limits on how many they accept.
I think I will write a few letters to manufacturers to ask them of their opinions of tescos practices and their opinions of if it is legal or not. Maybe a CC to the DTI will encourage them to answer my letters0 -
I just hope I don't ever get stuck behind you at the checkout and have to wait for you to split your shopping into two lots and then wait while all those coupons are counted!0
