Well done, Coupon King. Glad the store manager was so sympathetic!

I think I'm the only regular on here who doesn't use coupons for items that I haven't actually bought. The reason is that I would hate to be shown up like you were and have other people behind me in the queue listening and tutting! Am easily embarrassed by that sort of thing and find redeeming genuine coupons can be hard enough sometimes! :-[

I admire your guts and your stamina! :)

Pleased you sorted it out ;D ;D ;D
  • Most supermarkets seem to make up policy as they go along. Half the problem is the fact that many cashiers don't know the policy for their shop.

If there is a policy at all - I feel it should be clearly posted at EVERY till. That way, everyone knows where they stand. After all, they feel they need to post their policy at the entrances about customers being obliged to wear shirts and footwear on the premises. (Quite right too).

I like using coupons too as I'm sure most people do. But I've always felt the trick is NOT to become too greedy. I just use a few with each shop and never have any problems.

People trying to use large amounts eventually spoil it for everyone.

i don't think they do. if you can se them, so you should, up to the rule set by the shop. they make money on them, its no skin off there nose really.
  • Others have asked this and it hasn't been stated - but are you using a discount coupon for money off a certain product, and then not purchasing this product?

If so this is obivously abuse, but if you buy the product and follow the whole 50% of your shop rule thingy and you still get trouble with the checkout staff, l would write and complain to the store manager stating the name of the checkout operator each time and see what happens. Especially now you have a rapport with him.
    Sense is not common.
  • oh and BTW Asda now have a policy that they will accept all other supermarkets disocutn coupons. I used a mailshot from Somerfield in asda and got BOGOF on loads of items at one of my shops. Just tell the operator at the till before you start and show them an original hard copy of the advertisement.

    No print outs or photocopies.
    Sense is not common.
  • Whilst the large Tesco generally accept coupons (up to varying amounts and limits depending on a variety of factors and luck),without you having to buy the product, (unless they are Tesco coupons), - it seems Tesco Express will not.

As I found out today when I offered them a 20p coupon for something I had not bought.

The girl behind the till told me she would lose her commission. ???

  • Well done coupon king - the fight for the right to use coupons continues!

I too have had to deal with a snotty tesco floor supervisor but I wasn't brave enough to challenge her and just shuffled out of the store without using coupons.

Go on Jo-b you must get a bit braver. I usually just smile and say hello then hand over my little bundle of coupons and ask then to try them. I shop a tesco and the funny thing is the only coupons I've ever had handed back to me are Tesco branded coupons, They take scaned airwick, sainburys £2.50 whisky, and Sommerfields £2 off £20 spend ?? Most of the time the operators don't even look at then, they just hold them up to the scanner.
