Hi all
I manage to get hold of a replacement window for my car from
a scrap yard for £25 i asked how much if would be for autoglass to fit
it they said 198 with there glass or 196 a saving of two pound if i used my own glass
i cant afford to pay any where near than and its just me and my wife i dont have any car wise friends and i dont fancy trying to fit it myself
does anyone know of any cheap car glass fitters or garages that do it in Manchester area
Thanks for help

Is it bonded in? Have you removed all the old sealant? Even small traces of old sealant can cause a poor bond or leaks later on.
This is why they charge almost as much to fit it.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -

is there not anywhere than will fit a car window for cheaper than that the car is not worth paying that much to repair have a cheap car due to insurance being over £2200 as new driver so dont wanna claim insurance and its £75 excess aswell as0 -

try a small local windscreen firm rather than national chains0

Bonded in = its glued to the frame.
Older method = a rubber seal suurounds the glass and inserted into a lip
on the tailgate.
Old method = a piece of string to fit it. easy peasy...
Bonded in method is glued in with a special silicone. You have to get it right 1st time otherwise its makes a mess and may leak.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
None of the windows on your car are bonded in.
I could explain how to fit it for you but if im honest its easier to take it to a independant car glass replacment company who will fit it for you for a LOT cheaper than that.
Autoglass dont really want the work from private customers they just want he insurance work
HTH Fitter (as in windscreen fitter )0 -
actually ive just read the link that moaningit posted and that covers it but i stand by what i said just ring around a few independants they WILL want the work
fitter0 -

Nah, most garages will just punt it out to the local glass firm....and add a % for their time0
