I would not want the employer to do anything. Why? Because the employer is not my doctor, - they are my employer!!

Your use of language is interesting to say the least! If someone went along to your GP surgery and asked to see your medical notes would you accuse the surgery of having a cloak and dagger attitude when they said no those notes are confidential??

No-one and I mean no-one should feel compelled to speak about private medical issues they do not wish to disclose.

Your doctor cannot make accommodations for you in the workplace.

The employer is not asking to see your medical notes, they are asking if you have a health condition that may affect your work, or may require adjustments. There is a world of difference between the two.

If you became this worked up in the workplace, it would be helpful for the employer to know why. :p

Ah, then we're talking at cross purposes! The OP was about employers' medical questionnaires asking inappropriate, and intrusive questions. If I thought something was relevant and they needed to know I would of course mention it. But equally there's stuff I would never disclose, which is none of the employers business and there's no reason why I should tell them. I would think most people would use their common sense/discretion in answering questionnaires of this kind.

When I worked for a previous employer all employees were required to complete a medical questionnaire when their employment commenced and then annual after. This was due to us being classed as night workers apparently.

As I was part of the management team, and completed all paperwork for the employee files I dealt with these all the time. We never did anything more than put them in the correct file and lock them away.

There was only 1 question I didn't see why the company asked - Have you ever suffered from VD?

It is worth noting though that as the medical questionnaire was part of pre-employment paperwork (completed on day one prior to the contract being issued) ALL new starters would fail their probationary period if they did not complete this paperwork. (this was detailed within their contract as part of their requirements)

Can I ask then Gilbert2, as an employer, when you have to recruit, how do you ensure that your potential workers are, either British citizens (and therefore need no proof of entitlement to work), or entitled to work in the UK?

He won't answer you. He put us both on ignore as we dared to question his 'logic' on another thread.

What Gilbert rather fails to acknowledge is that anyone unable or unwilling to prove their right to work in the UK would not be allowed to take up a position in any reputable firm....
