A car or vehicle board ?

Would it be possible to have a car of vehicle board ?
It has never occurred to me before as I have always had a company car but normally the next biggest outgoing for anybody after a mortgage is a car . I have recently been made redundant so will have to buy a car and from reading posts on other boards on here I know it can be a minefield. From actually buying a vehicle to insuring it ( or perhaps I am being a complete girly
).
