Offer the funeral directors so much a month, if you haven't got that amount of money all at once then they can't have it can they.
You say they will take further action soon, well I assume that means they will get debt collection agencies involved, I'm sure they don't really want to do that and even if they did it would mean the agencies would ask you for a payment plan so you might as well do it through the funeral services and cut out the middle man.
I can't see them refusing to be honest as at least they will get their money and to be brutally frank and honest what else can they do? They can hardly get your mum back and chuck her out of the cemetery can they.0
