I know someone selling an iphone 5 locked to Orange. I am currently with t mobile. Now EE. Since orange and t mobile have merged would I be able to use my sim in a locked Orange iphone?

Depends on when your SIM was provisioned (Pre or post merger?). If the latter, no problem - if the former, just request a replacement SIM as it's a little intermittent - that should get a free swap.

I have a pre-merger sim, probably 3 or 4 years old now, from T-Mobile. It works fine in an orange locked iPhone.
