best phone for calls

looking for phones that are good at receiving and making calls - have had mixed results with various phones, some sound like robots, some sound as if you're in the bath and one I had never even rang, it just let me know by text message that I had missed a call!
having recently got myself a tablet I don't really need any apps (the only thing I would like is the ability to tether)
just frustrated looking at phones that do everything apart from make decent calls!

Great for calls, but not for tethering. Do you realise that very few tariffs allow the latter?

never had a problem with my current contract for tethering, so it's fine at the moment...
I actually had one of those nokias back in the day, not particularly useful for tethering as you say
