Sick of spending more than I should

So everytine I go shopping I always buy more than I should. It is pointless me making lists because even though most people say it works I always tend to stray. I would buy online but it is not worth it for something as minor as toilet roll and milk and I need to stop because that is what is biting most of my monthly budget and I am not eating what I already have just rrstocking like a squirrel.

Take the right amount of cash only, and no cards.
You can't pay for anything additional then.0 -
Nothing will work unless you are disciplined enough to carry it out, at least that's what i learnt!
I would make lists but never stick to them too, but if you are serious about spending less, you just have to stick to it.
I would go ober to the Grocery challenge and read the first few posts on there, that'll give you a good start.
Also, consider meal planning, as its's saved me loads.
And i agree with Domino, only take the cash for what you need, you wont have any other option.0 -
Would you say it is wiser to buy store only goods if they are cheaper than well known brands if they work out cheaper beause that is another one of my flaws.PDL Free!

If you don't want anything down the certain aisles, don't go down them!
You don't need to walk up and down each aisle to do shopping.
If I do need milk, I walk to Iceland with a £1 in my purse so I can't be tempted into buying anything else.
If its on a day off work, eat before you go as an empty stomach means you buy more stuff - esp rubbish.0 -

If a branded item is cheaper than an own brand then I'd buy it (provided it was something I liked of course) but I'm not sure that's your question. If you're asking whether it's cheaper to buy own brand then yes usually but you do need to check the cost per kg.
I wouldn't recommend going to a shop and buying everything own brand unless you've tried them before. Try one or two a week, if you hate them then less waste.
BTW there's luxury, branded, own brand and then there's value in most stores so often four price bands or you could shop in Aldi or Lidl. Perhaps just drop a level at a time.

I feel for you as I used to be like this, I shopped daily and always bought too much, it answered an emotional need I think.
18 months ago I joined the grocery challenge and gradually weaned myself off daily shopping to weekly, now I am trying for every two weeks. I also like the idea of fiscal fast and eating out of the freezer and cupboards for a week.
You could try this on a daily basis to start, just tell yourself you will use up something out of stock that day, and then the next and the next.
I found if I suceeded one day the buzz i got motivated me to try another day and another. Good luck.Slimming World at target0 -

Sorry but I don't know how to link to another thread/board. Go to the Old Style Board (menu on the right) and the Grocery Challenge is near the top. Post any questions you have on there. I think they work a month at a time so now is an excellent time to get involved.
Hopefully someone will come along with clearer instructions.:o0 -
