Yup, I think this should work. Look along the top.
(I'm on a Windows pc, so this is off the top of my head).
System > Preferences > Session
It'll open a new Window. On the first tab one you'll need to add an item.
You basically need to put a name and command.
For name put anything, like "Internet Messenger"
For the command, you need to put "gaim"
