School uniform and benefits

This shouldn't of turned into a discussion on a childs weight, there could be dozens of reasons the daughter is the size she is... i totally agree the OP should of planned the school uniform basics earlier but it's very unfair to start criticizing the poor girl, could you imagine if she actually read these posts.
Dozens? Are you sure?0 -
You've only got this weekend left to purchase the rest of the uniform. If the school can supply skirt, blazer, badge, tie and PE kit would they let you pay in stages? I think its really important she wears the correct uniform from the start.
I could suggest you pay by credit card but it sounds as if you might have difficulties paying it off and interest payments would be another worry.
BTW Next and M&S do plus size school clothing.0 -
For Infant/Junior schools I would even say it is not necessary to have any restrictions on uniform or where it is purchased. Simply state what colour the shirt, Jumper/pants have to be and allow the parents to buy from where ever they want.
Just for information's sake, uniform/dress code at all state primary schools is legally unenforceable. No sanction/punishment etc can be given for a child under Year 7 who does not abide by the school dress code. Fact.
(Obviously if child turns up in clothes that present a H&S risk then that's a different matter as H&S trumps everything else). I've found it helpful in the past to remind over zealous Headteachers of this fact. It usually makes them more inclined to "accept" my compromise ie. right colour ASDA/Tesco clothes, no badge0 -

My hips are quite a bit bigger than my waist but again, the bones stick out a bit.
I'm 5ft4, take a size 10 or 12, and my BMI is 22. So this girl may not be as fat as she is being made out to be on here.
I'm 5ft 2in, 38 D, size 16-18 and fat.0 -
Put an ad on gumtree asking for what you need, you never know someone might have some spare stuff. Thats a sahme you get no help in Scotland you get £50 to get your child stuff. Could you not possibly try for a crisis loan it is then deducted off your benefits, to be fair when you ask for one dont say its for uniform, say its for gas and elec and you have run out and say its prepayment meters you have. That way you will get the money right away and its deducted off you benefits. Then hopefully you will get a job soon and back on your feet. With regards to commenet made about your daughter being fat etc, thats a disgrace and people should be utterly ashamed this is a 14 year old girl here. And also ignore the silly comments on here like the woman talking about john lewis she was clearly trying to be funny. I personally have never been on JSA but know there are genuine cases and times can be tough. Good luck

imo schools really shouldnt be able to have uniforms that cost so much. i have no idea why they do
It's to discourage low income families from sending their children there
Overactively underachieving for almost half a century0 -
I thought the government ( tax payer ) was generously giving away hundreds of pounds a month as Child Benefit and Child tax credit. I also thought that was supposed to be used to take care of the child poverty problem to make sure the child does not feel poor. It does not seem to be working if the mums are not using it to even buy school uniforms. They spend the child benefit on fags and want the tax payer to fund school uniforms as well !!0
