No, it's the 38 back that makes her a size 18 - normal/ average size teenage girls do not have a 38 back. And proportionate hips would be due to being overweight. We are not talking about her fitting into "little girl" sizes, but teenage girl/ young woman sizes.

Sorry to be blunt, but this is clearly an issue that needs addressing now. I was overweight as a teenager, so I know from experience that the problem will only get worse if it is not addressed. :o

I'm going off my own stats here. I'm a 36A, which is a very broad back size. But there is next to no fat on my upper body. My ribcage is wide and the bottom ribs show noticeably in tight tops.

My hips are quite a bit bigger than my waist but again, the bones stick out a bit.

I'm 5ft4, take a size 10 or 12, and my BMI is 22. So this girl may not be as fat as she is being made out to be on here.
Public appearances now involve clothing. Sorry, it's part of my bail conditions.

The child may be larger than average, however the OP didn't come here looking for advice on dieting. She came looking for advice on school uniforms and grants.

When I grow up I want to be as perfect as most on these forums think they are ;)

You seem to have missed the OPs acknowledgement her daughter is "on the larger side". There is no doubting that a 38DD is, at best, a combination of a wide ribcage and fat.

i work in a school, and a d cup bust and 38 back is not unusual, sorry but girls have much larger chests than when we were at school.

so leaving all the other stuff to one side. fits the nation from bhs is very good, and i used to get my dd shoes from evans as all our family have wide feet and after coming back with her crying cos no shoes fitted her i took her in on the off chance and they're sell lots of shoes suitable for school wear.

at work we do have uniform donated which we keep for kids that need it. we also have loads of lost property that if its not claimed gets washed and added to the pile. PE work a similar system.

i donated my kids blazers and stuff afterwards to school. we have the policy that no child should be made to feel different.

we also have a hardship fund for school trips etc.

all this is done very discreetly, no one else needs to know (even the child at times isn't aware).

i do wonder why you moved with no work to go to, but that's not my business is it?

Mum has indicated that the child is 5'3 and a size 18, as the national average size for a fully grown woman is 14-16 I think we can all be fairly sure that the child is overweight. There is nothing wrong with that in the context of the question but it will be picked up on that the "new kid" is a bit bigger and it could be used to taunt her so why even contemplate sending her to school in the "wrong" clothes? She will most likely be bullied.

I would approach the school again, outline the situation and see if they can help, the chances of them having spare size 18 shirts is slim but there may be a grant or something that you can apply for that is limited so only used as a very last resort.

This shouldn't of turned into a discussion on a childs weight, there could be dozens of reasons the daughter is the size she is... i totally agree the OP should of planned the school uniform basics earlier but it's very unfair to start criticizing the poor girl, could you imagine if she actually read these posts.

So would I. Seems I'd have to remove most of my skeleton to achieve it though!

Please give a reason why it is appropriate to keep a 14 year old girl out of school for 6 months.
