Thats what you call having your cake and eating it!

Oh she definitely did not have her cake and eat it. She had an absolutely tragic early life and the vast majority of it was stranger than fiction. Luckily she met the man I knew as my grandfather and he changed her world, though she still had a lot of life's battles to contend with.

I have always said I would love to write her life story but I think people wouldn't believe it and would class it as a far fetched novel!

  • Oh we are all in full confessional mode today. Some good, some bad and some very sad, Hugs and love to everyone who has ever had a deep and dark secret they shared or desperately wanted to confide in someone.

I believe a bit ... or a lot .... of disclosure is good for the soul and my darling gran would have probably been shocked and then laughed, had she known I was spilling her deepest and darkest secrets to you lovely ladies.

Tina - What has happened can't be changed. You need to keep strong and look forward, not back. No-one here will judge you, we will just listen and support you.

Gosh, so many of you have had a tough time, thoughts are with you all, certainly puts things into perspective.

Julie - Good luck to you, hope things get sorted. Rome wasn't built in a day and all that but the first step must be the hardest.

Busy day here, phone calls back and forth to Solicitors, Estate Agents, etc. Not sure I have actually achieved anything! Booked a skip for a garden party next weekend - guests will be asked to wear wellies, bring work gloves and be able to work a wheelbarrow! When they have cleared my garden of all the carp they will be rewarded by something hot to eat and some refreshment!

Been up to the hospice this afternoon for my volunteer shift which was busy as usual and when I got in DD had lit the fire and started the tea which was chicken stir fry and yummy. Managed to get 4 meals plus soup stock from the chicken.

Going to rub down one of the worktops in the kitchen and re-oil it tonight (what an exciting life I lead!).

    Take care. XX

There's a lot of brave people on this thread, who have had to endure a hell of a lot, and have still turned out to be good, caring people.

Tina we all have skeletons and zombies, just don't always talk about them, I could tell you stories about my and OH's families that make my hair curl, never mind yours! I come from a long line of depression sufferers, my mum was bipolar and killed herself when I was 3 months old, my dad, brother, OH and I all have had depression at times, OH once overdosed and did a runner from the hospital and was missing for days, and in his youth he followed the family history and wasn't a stranger to HMP BarL, or the big hotel as his family call it! Doesn't change who we are at all, nobody can tell what goes on behind closed doors, and is no reflection on you, my MIL would put Hyacinth Bouquet to shame and her son was less than perfect, shall we say!

Crikey, what a hotbed of skeletons I've been reading - and my only shame was that my grandparents only married 2 months before my mum was born in 1930...in a register office...into a "catholic" family...and they've all gone over so I can't ask anyone about the whys & wherefores and she never said a single word to any of her kids.

Big hugs to all who'd like one

All I can say to everyone is "There but for the grace of God go I". I'd need a book to explain about my in laws. Suffice it to say that when my FIL died and I went to France after the funeral, I was somewhat surprised to see that every single fact engraved on his tombstone was wrong. A happy, charming downright liar! But very convincing.
