Sick Note & Going Out
Comments

I've been off work sick since before Christmas, I could go into work but my employer has decided to undo some reasonable adjustments put in place by my previous employer (we were bought over and TUPEd), I could go to work but I'd struggle to see, hear and get around the shop in my wheelchair so I'm at home while I battle it out with HR.
I take pleasure in wheeling past the shop every Saturday with my Starbucks cup in its holder.0 -
As someone who has had squint surgery... I know that I was basically 'bad' in the mornings, but then by the afternoon I would feel fine (even if my eye was rather red). This meant that I would do things like go for a walk to get some fresh air and exercise because that's all part of a healthy balance. I didn't drive for a bit, which limited where I could go, but yes, I was out and about and would do so again.
But, if it's only a week, why do you need a certificate anyway? You can self certify for a week?0 -
The only thing I'd be wary of being out and about with people is the chance of getting the eye infected. I had different sort of eye surgery and was off work for 4 weeks purely because of the infection risk. I know your surgery is different but do be careful.0

I had a fall and hurt my foot. This means I can't drive and can't do my job as it means standing up all day, however, I can hobble about and can get to my DHs car and into another building-as I had to do to see dr and specialist. I am signed off work and have to go back and see dr in a week. So would i be expected to just stare at my own four walls until my foot heals?GE 36 *MFD may 2043

As an employer, I don't want to see anyone back until their sick note runs out.
That aside, it depends on what the reason for the illness is and how it affects your job. For example, I run a haulage company and if a driver breaks his arm, then he isn't going to be able to drive, but there's no reason for him to stay at home. If he's rung in that day and said he's dying of flu and then he's spotted in the pub, that wouldn't go down well.0 -

If I self certify I would have to ring in sick everyday. However, If I have a doctors note which I have now I don't have to.
I've had a call from my Manager and she said they don't expect me to be housebound for the next week. She said if I want to go out socially im free to do so without any repercussion :-)Im an ex employee RBS GroupHowever Any Opinion Given On MSE Is Strictly My Own0 -
If you have got one then fine.
Technically the doctor could charge you for issuing one during the first week.
The surgeon offered it me when he came back to see his handy work.
Funnily enough I've got two as they was stuck together the second is blank might sell it for a small fortune.Im an ex employee RBS GroupHowever Any Opinion Given On MSE Is Strictly My Own0
