Sick Note & Going Out

Stclair - it's to do with the fact that as you are signed unfit to work, employer's liability insurance would not actually cover you to be on site.
Caveated to add - I have never spoken to our insurance company re: this but heard it stated at a previous company. I'm not an insurance specialist!
Erring on caution, we ask employees who want to return early to submit a further fit note to confirm they are fit to attend, bearing in mind we already have a doc to confirm they are not fit to work on file.*** Thank you for your consideration ***0 -
Well to be honest I was originally taking it as annual holiday until I slipped up then they wouldn't allow it as they knew I was having an operation.
So this question is not about beating the system or anything. I asked if I could come back into work prior and HR said I some about insurance whilst having a sick note.
Don't listen to some of the people on here. If only your eyes are affected then I can see no reason that going out would be a problem. Being off sick doesn't mean that you can't do anything at all!Lost my soulmate so life is empty.
I can bear pain myself, he said softly, but I couldna bear yours. That would take more strength than I have -

Thats what HR was saying today. I could wait until Monday and get another note to enable me to go into work it isnt an issue im not a normally ring in sick type of person. Its just that work have kind of said today I can not come in until the note expired.Im an ex employee RBS GroupHowever Any Opinion Given On MSE Is Strictly My Own0 -

Meanwhile, back in the real world - any reasonable employer will draw a distinction between having coffee with friends while recuperating from eye surgery, and doing intensely eye-focussed work (pun intended) against doctors advice.
If you are concerned though, just have a quiet word with HR and they will (should) put your mind at rest.

A few years ago I had a sick note from the Drs to be off work from date x-y due to a chest infection but feeling better I went into work before the end of my sick note recommended, I was told to go straight home and not come back until after the date stated on my sick note. Guess it was to do with works liability insurance.I hate migraines.0

I suppose it depends on the workplace. One of my colleagues got disciplined for being out having a coffee while signed off sick with depression - and holy hell ensued when my boss tried to say that if you were off sick you shouldnt be leaving the house at all for any reason but she hastily had to retract that when someone said well what happens if you have a medical appointment?*The RK and FF fan club* #Family*Don’t Be Bitter- Glitter!* #LotsOfLove ‘Darling you’re my blood, you have my heartbeat’ Dad 20.02.200

I was signed off for 3 months when I smashed my elbow. I still went for coffees with friends, even though they had to help me put my jacket on.
I'd have gone barmy without them to whinge and whine to! It's part of the therapy. If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.0
