fibre optic broadband providers

Hi,

My local exchange has now been activated for Fibre Broadband so I am now looking for suggestions on which provider to choose, I have checked on Same Knows and that is reporting that the following services are available: O2, Talktalk, Sky and BT.

Currently my broadband is supplied via O2 and my line rental and calls are with BT. Would I need a MAC to move to transfer everything over for example keeping the same landline number?

I have been in contact with O2 who advised me that they are not sure when they will be launching fibre broadband.

Many thanks for your help.

You should also find Plusnet will do fibre, my neighbour has just gone on their fibre, and was quickly installed and works well.

I went with plusnet fibre this month followed by phone a couple of weeks later. Installation was done by BT openworld, modem/router supplied free with plusnet if you take phone with them and subject to 18month contract
  • whatever you do, DONT USE TALK TALK!

I'm with plusnet (albeit oridinary broadband, and they are excellent. But yes, you would need a MAC code from your current provider, and they have to supply you with it within five working days. Theyre normally valid for fourteen days i think

These are the LLU providers. As you say, there is no indication at present that O2 are going to offer FTTC. All the FTTC services offered are a resold BT Wholesale product. Yes, you need a MAC to do an ADSL to ADSL transfer.

    Hi

    Thanks for your responses,

Plus net seems to offer everything that I would need e.g. Unlimited broadband and anytime calls, does anyone know if they offer the free caller display service that BT does?

I have now got my MAC from O2, do I need any codes from BT also in order to take my landline number across to the new provider?

Edit I am out of contract with both O2 and BT.

    Thanks for your help.

    Hi,

Does anyone know how to go about moving my phone services from BT to Plusnet ? I am out of contract with BT and have spoken to them and they have said that they need 30 days notice of this request is this correct?

Also does anyone on here use the Plusnet router technicolor 582n for their fibre connection if so what are the performance results like?

I have the (modified) Techicolor 582n, and not had any major problems.
I have heard on the grapevine that they're are a few people having problems with it dropping connection, but at the end of the day you are only paying £4.99 p&p for the router.
It's also worth noting that one of the ethernet ports has been modifed to take the fibre connection from the openreach modem.

The normal BT notice period is 14 days.
Just sign up online with Plusnet (remember to go via a comp site) once you have obtained your MAC from BT.
You are not 'out of contract', you are out of minimum term contract, so a notice period still applies.

    HI

    Thanks for your response,

I already have a MAC from O2 to transfer across my broadband, do I also need something like this from BT to able to keep my existing number?

    Thanks
