M&S rip off

Bought a bottle of M&S wine in an ice bucket at £30. Very disappointed to find later that the wine by itself is only £12.99 meaning I paid £17.01 for the plastic bucket.
I thought M&S were above rip offs such as this but obviously not.

Of course its not a rip-off. You chose to pay it. You did not have to. No-one ripped you off, you made the decision to buy. xxWins in 2013 - Jan - Heinz No Noise Ketchup.0

The original poster feels ripped off, which they're entitled to. In my view it's a similar philosophy to buying a train ticket and then finding that you could have got it cheaper by splitting the journey into two. A company may not have been deceitful, you may not have been lied to, but you can still feel hard done by. The word rip-off means different things to different people, and some people feel that a suitable response is to warn others.0 -
But what price do you place on a bucket? Did it come in an arrangement? Was it meant as a gift?"If you no longer go for a gap, you are no longer a racing driver" - Ayrton Senna0

was it this one?

seems a bit steep IMO.
most of the time with items like this it works out cheaper to buy the items separately.0 -

The OP could have sourced the wine; then sourced the bucket, then put the wine inside the bucket him/herself. He/she chose not to.
I have long been of the opinion that ANY gift containing a fancily-presented bottle of wine is not good value.
Not a rip-off but 'clever marketing'.
Rule is - Do your research BEFORE you hand over your hard-earned; once you have made your purchasing decision stop looking at the prices!Don't put it DOWN; put it AWAY"I would like more sisters, that the taking out of one, might not leave such stillness" Emily DickinsonJanice 1964-2016

That depends on the definition of rip-off that an individual has, but when consumers feel they have received poor value, that risks in my view being of negative value to the company, rather than clever marketing.
The down-side for companies that try this is that consumers feel disappointed in their brand, and then talk about their experiences in a negative way. At the moment some retail companies are spending large sums on reputation management, and I've seen on this site several issues about M&S recently, none serious, but most probably avoidable.0 -
It's not like for like though. You quote £12.99 for a bottle, which is for cava 2009 vintage, whereas the one in your *set* is cava 2008 vintage. I haven't got a clue how much the price differs between 2008 & 2009. I do agree with valli that this is not a rip-off, merely a *valentine's day* marketing ploy. Not a rip off, you chose to pay £30 for a bottle of plonk with a bucket when you could have got a bucket from elsewhere and added some other bits along with the plonk. Your possibly peeved about it and so would anyone else.OneYorkshireLass wrote: »was it this one?

The OP says it was a wine and bucket whereas the link is for a cava but maybe the OP meant cava.
On a seperate note gifts that are on sale for Valentines day can be over priced, way overpriced just for a 1 day occaison.0 -
People are too ready to say 'Rip Off'
Its not just the wine and the bucket, someone has gone and got the wine, gone and got the bucket, set it all up, decorated it accordingly, different packaging for transporting, etc. etc. etc.
All this is labour and has to be charged for.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0
