Car hire insurance - legal fee cover?

Hi all

I am trying to book car insurance cover as I will be hiring a car in Barcelona.

With all the car hire insurance websites, I cant see anything about legal fees being included.

Any ideas of where I can? Is this now listed under a different name?

Thanks.

Interesting- nor can I. Why not ring Insurance4carhire's UK call centre on 0844 892 1770 ? I use 'em as they're cheaper than insuring the excess (usually 1000 Euros or so) with the overseas car hire company itself. Or if you want the rental company to packakge it up for you, ring a UK-based broker like Carhire3000 on 0800 368 5302 (now with a new trading name but as cheap, reliable and efficient as ever in my experience)

And assuming you are talking about 'legal protection' insurance (?) is that really an issue with a hire car? I thought it's main purpose is to cover the legal costs of pursuing uninsured losses through the courts, for example if you are in danger of losing your no claim discount through the action of a third party (although the only time I tried to use mine to pursue someone who hit me then claimed 50-50 liability, my insurer said their lawyers wouldn't back me without an independent witness!). As your NCD isn't affected by overseas hire incidents, I guess the only value would be to keep you out of goal if you were perceived guilty of a serious motoring offence???

Oh- and as an afterthought; before you book, check the hire company's fuelling policy. In our recent experience, lots of Spanish rental companies have switched to 'full out - empty back' which means you pay for a full tank's worth of juice wheter or not you use it. This effectively added 40+ Euros to the cost of a recent rental from Malaga as we drove less than a hundred miles and gave the car back having only used a quarter-tankfull! There are still companies doing the more sensible 'full-out, full-back', but watch the small print
